Notes from the Principal
Dear JWE Friends and Families,
As we begin a new calendar year together, it’s exciting to think of the possibilities ahead. Our students have such great potential and as a school community we aim to help them reach this together. As educators, and I know as parents, we are very proud of the growth our students are making. The year 2024 feels like the beginning of new success stories for our kids who attend John Wetten Elementary. I look forward to continuing to support you on the education journey of your students and wish you all a happy new year!
Sincerely,
John McAndrews
Principal
John Wetten Elementary
Important News
A Change of Clothes
At this time of year, we have more students than usual needing a change of clothes because they fall and get wet or muddy. If your student brings home clothes from the school please wash and return them. You may consider keeping a change in their backpack so they don't have to borrow clothes from the school.
We also take donations of easy on/off pants (no jeans please) and tops for both boys and girls of all sizes.
Parent Faculty Organization (PFO) News
Hello John Wetten Parents and Guardians,
Just a reminder that the PFO will be hosting a Winter Ball dance on January 12th! The doors open at 5:15 and the dance will run from 5:30-7:30. We please ask that parents and guardians supervise their children during the dance, this is not a drop off event. The dance will only be open to JWE students. There will be snacks for purchase but it is cash only. We can’t wait see you all there!
The PFO is also looking for volunteers to help with the planning, prep, set up and tear down of the school carnival on May 17th. If you are interested please contact Jwepfo@gmail.com , any and all help is appreciated!!
Have a happy holiday season and a happy New Year,
The JWE PFO

Morning Drop Off Safety
Parents please be reminded of these safety protocols when dropping off students in the morning:
- Pull up as far as you can before dropping off your children
- Drop off only at the curb (not in the parking lot)
- Do NOT pass around cars that are taking a little longer to get a child out of the car
There have been a few close calls lately and we don't want anyone to get hurt. Thank you for your understanding and support.
No Pets on Campus
Please be reminded that pets are not allowed on campus during the school day. If you are walking up to pick up your student at dismissal, we ask that you do not bring your pets in to the loading zone (even if they are on a leash). This is for your protection as well as all the other students and adults who are in that area. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Gladstone Food Pantry
On the second Thursday of each month, the Gladstone Food Pantry has a special shopping time from 1230-130p for GSD families only. Please watch the district newsletter for a reminder each month. Families will need to bring proof of enrollment to qualify for this special time. Please see the attached flyer for the December shopping date. The pantry will be open every week in December at the regular time.
Gladstone Shows Up
Attendance in elementary school, particularly the early years, is very important because children are building the foundational knowledge for reading and math which will help them succeed throughout all of their years in school.
End of Day Transportation Changes - Walker, Pick-Up or Bus Rider
Is your child scheduled to be be a Walker, Pick-Up or Bus Rider? Here's the difference:
Walker - required to leave campus without adult supervision.
Pick-Up - required to stay on campus to be picked up by an authorized adult
-- Car Pick Up is when someone will be driving through the turn around
-- Walk Up is when someone parks and walks up to the school
Bus Rider - required to ride the bus home or to designated location
Every student has a pre-determined plan for the end of the each day. If you have any change to your child's end of day transportation plan please email us at jwetransportation@gladstone.k12.or.us no later than 12 noon (M, T, Th, F) or 11:00 a.m. (W). We will reply to your message by 2:00 p.m. or 1:00 (W) to confirm receipt of your message. Please include the student's name, teacher and details of the plan.
