iMiddle news for the week of 12/15 - 12/19
Message from Principal Labas
Greetings,
I am sure many of you are getting ready for the holidays. As the new year approaches, I am thankful for the brilliant iMiddle students & staff who inspire me to never stop learning. I am truly amazed every day with how respectful, polite and passionate the kids are at iMiddle. I am grateful to those who support our school with their time and for those who continue to go the extra mile every day in support of the students. The parents of iMiddle have shown that together we can make a difference! Thank you parents for your continued support and for standing by us as we partner together.
I wish all the iMiddle families a Happy Holiday and a new year full of happiness, good health and prosperity!
Have a wonderful week!
Nicola Labas
iMIddle Principal

Announcements & Reminders
Picture Yourself at Madison for 8th grade students and parents:
Wednesday, Dec. 17th, iMiddle will participate in the walking field trip to Madison HS for Picture Yourself at Madison day. This annual event allows our 8th grade students a chance to experience what high school is like and gives information about the various programs that Madison has to offer. Students will see performances from the band, choir, cheer, JROTC and more. Students will learn about the small learning communities that Madison has to offer (Design and Technology Academy and School of the Arts) as well as get a virtual tour of the campus from Madison's state of the art broadcast studio. Parents are encouraged to attend; student should be at Madison no later than 9:15 AM. Students should arrive to iMiddle at the normal time (8:00) and will begin walking over around 8:45. Permission slips were sent home with students on Wed Dec. 10 and are due back on Friday, Dec. 12. All 8th grade students, regardless of what HS they plan to attend, are encouraged to attend the Picture Yourself at Madison day.
Parents Night out! Drop your child off at Dave & Busters on Jan 11th, chaperoned by iMiddle staff, and support iMiddle's funrai$ing campaign. iMiddle will be selling Power Cards starting this week which then can be used at D & B on Jan. 11th. These cards can be used at any time but if they are used on Jan 11th, the school will earn an additional 20%. The best part of purchasing the cards through iMIddle, is that iMiddle will be able to keep 50% of the funds raised by the Power Cards. This money goes directly back to the iMiddle students for things such as FUN Fridays, PE equipment, dances, iParties, and award assemblies. Tickets will be on sale through the student store or the office. This is a perfect gift for your child & raises money for iMiddle at the same time!
Hot Chocolate: The asb students are selling a sweet treat in the morning for .75. The student baristas are ready to serve!
Soccer Club: The Soccer club is meeting every Tuesday & Friday from 3:00 - 4:00. Anyone can join and it is free. Coach Vega welcomed over 30 students last week to play a new form of soccer called Futsal. Futsal is an exciting, fast-paced small sided soccer game that is widely played across the world and is officially recognized by both UEFA and FIFA. This will be a co-ed club that will meet after school on Tuesdays from 3:00-4:00 PM. Student should meet by the Library after school on Tuesday interested in playing.
Minimum Day & Holiday Break The next minimum day is December 19th. Please make arrangements to pick up your child at 1:15. This also begins the holiday break. iMiddle will be closed for the holiday break between December 22nd-January 2nd. School will reopen on Monday, January 5th.
The New Design Task Force for the future of iMiddle will hold the next meeting on December 17th at 5:30 PM in the iMiddle Library. All parents and community members are welcome to attend to give feedback on the new construction & design of iMiddle. This is the last meeting to give input about the modernization of the school.

Dec. 16 - Common Core State Standards for Mathematical Practice
Parenting Conference:
Overwhelmed, Over-Scheduled, Overindulged
Over the past year, we’ve been inquiring and listening to parents and families in our community about the challenges they face on a daily basis.
And we've heard three very distinct and common threads . . .
We are Overwhelmed.
Our kids are Over-scheduled.
We're worried that they may be Overindulged.
So, is there a fix? And if so, what is it and how can I make it work for my family? If you are a parent, grandparent or family member looking to improve the attitude, approach, and purpose - this upcoming event is for you.
This January, Coronado SAFE presents... “Raising Children in an Age of Overwhelm” with an incredible line up of exciting speakers...
- Lucinda Ribant – Motivational Speaker, Therapist, and Parent Educator
- Lorraine M. Hobbs – Director of Youth and Family Programs, U.C. San Diego Center for Mindfulness
- Brad Willis – Former NBC network news war correspondent and author of Warrior Pose
- Jeff Everage – Prior Navy SEAL and Producer of The Joy of Parenting Online Course
- Sara Vance – Nutritionist, author and founder of Rebalance Life
