From the Principal's Desk

Happy New Year GBE Families!

We have had two fast days back and our students are focused on our classroom, building expectations and routines these first two days. We have been emphasizing these norms of being respectful, responsible and safe while here at GBE. Mr. Samuel and myself have been working with the Student Advisory Team during morning announcements to focus on specific traits that help students be successful. One we talked about during announcements this week was being an active listener and what that looks like-- we encouraged classroom teachers to take a moment to discuss this important trait. We also discussed how putting your best foot forward was key and following directions given by an adult in class and in the building. Please do take time to discuss these important traits with your child to help them be the best learner they can at GBE. We appreciate your ongoing support.

Be sure to check your child's backpack today for their grade card. These are sent home today for this quarter. Coming up we will have some days out of school and an early out. I have included the January calendar in the newsletter. When February rolls around it will be mid-quarter on the 1st, and progress reports will go home on February 8th. Always do feel free to contact your child's teacher if you have any questions or concerns.

What does the story mean?

Stop at natural breaks in the story and ask questions. Avoid questions with “yes” or “no” answers. Instead ask questions such as:

What do you think will happen next?

Which character in the story did you like best? Why?

What was the setting of the story?

What was the most exciting part of the story?

Retell the story in your own words.

What was the funniest, saddest, or scariest part of the story?

Attention: Parents and Students from the Desk of the GBE Librarian:
