Spring Trip to San Antonio April 3-4, 2020 Only 18 seats left!

Our spring trip will be on April 3rd and 4th, 2020. We are going to San Antonio! Friday will be the performance, sightseeing in the Riverwalk area, and Hard Rock Cafe for dinner. Saturday will be Six Flags Fiesta Texas. Total cost of the trip will be $340 per student, all inclusive without fundraising. Students will receive detailed sign up information the first week of school. This is an optional trip.

Rice University Symphony Trip on Friday, October 4th, 2019


Sign up by Monday, September 9th, 2019 I have to get an exact headcount for tickets. No sign up=no ticket.

Who: All KHS Orchestra students. You must have paid your 2019-2020 KHOBA fees in full. Optional.

What: Rice Symphony Field Trip. The performance starts at 7:30 pm and ends around 9 pm.

Where: The concert is at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music.

When: Friday, October 4th. 4:30 pm to 10:00 pm. We have plenty of dinner and traffic time built in.

Transportation: Yellow school bus. You can’t drive yourself. The bus will depart from the orchestra loading dock.

What to wear: Dress nicely, conservatively. No jeans. Collared shirts and maybe a tie and khakis/slacks for boys, dresses/slacks/skirts for girls, hems to the knee.

How much does it cost? Tickets are free, and KHOBA is covering the bus cost

Dinner: Bring about $10-$15 for dinner at Memorial City Mall food court. We will be staying in just the food court area, no Cheesecake Factory, no ice skating, no shopping, etc. You could also bring a sack dinner.

Region Orchestra Auditions and how to sign up

Region Orchestra auditions are coming up on October 12th. You need to fill out the Audition Contract and return to Ms. Lawrence by Friday, September 13th. Region orchestra is determined by a rigorous audition process and selects the best musicians from Houston ISD, Alief ISD, and Katy ISD. This is optional.

Marching Band Traffic Closures 5 pm to 6:30 pm weekdays

If you pick up your student by the orchestra room, the area will be blocked off to traffic 5 pm to 6:30 pm because of marching band practice and equipment trailers. Pick up your child by the Black Box or by the natatorium parking lot.

Katy ISD Private Lesson Program

Violin and Viola Lessons at Katy High School

We have lessons available at KHS for violin and viola through the Katy ISD Private Lesson Program. We have two teachers. Please email Ms. Lawrence ASAP to sign up for a time. ellenmlawrence@katyisd.org


A private teacher can help you improve on your instrument and help with technique, region auditions, solos, and vibrato. Lessons are a weekly commitment.



Mr. Michael Della-Calce, violin (main instrument) and viola, $20.50 per 30 minute lesson

Mondays 3:00 pm - 5:30 pm Lessons start August 26th

Wednesdays 3:00 pm - 7:30 pm Lessons start August 28th


Dr. Sylvia Chien, viola (main instrument) and violin, $24.50 per 30 minute lesson

Dr. Chien has a doctorate in viola performance and is a Suzuki violin teacher

Wednesdays pm 3:00 -7:30 pm Lessons start August 21st

Dr. Chien's schedule is almost full. She has 6 pm to 7:30 pm available still.




Cello and Bass Lessons

Bass lessons

Bass lessons through the Katy ISD Private Lesson Program will be offered at Paetow High School on Wednesdays with Grace Lewis, $22.50 per half hour.


Cello lessons

We are short on private cello teachers in the Katy area. I will let you know if any cello teachers have availability. There are some experienced cello teachers at the new Paganini School of Music (Sam's Strings). https://paganinischool.com/
