Weekly Wednesday Update
Wednesday October, 28th
Class Placements/Schedules for Quarter 2 (PreK-3 students)
We know everyone is eager to learn who your PreK-3 grade teachers and schedules are for the second quarter! With the School Board’s recent decision to go to Stage 3, we have been dedicated to making this transition as problem-free as possible for all families and staff. It’s a complex puzzle at Mountain View, but one we are solving collaboratively! Beginning one week from Wednesday, November 11, we look forward to welcoming more of our teachers and hundreds of our pre-K and K-3 students into school. All 4th and 5th grade students will remain with their current virtual teachers.
As a school, we are making every effort to limit the need for students to change teachers but some changes are unavoidable due to competing priorities that are beyond our control -- including this pandemic. While we want to share as much information with you as quickly as we can about these changes, we will be mailing letters out on Friday to let you know who will be teaching your child beginning on November 9 for virtual and November 11 in school. Families can also find this information in PowerSchool after 5 p.m. on Friday.
We all appreciate so much the tremendous efforts of all of our families, teachers and staff during this highly unusual and challenging time. Your partnership helps us strike the best-possible-balance all of the priorities before us, from family choice to teacher preferences to the needs of our immersion program, that we are making the best possible decisions for your child.
We all need your continued support, patience, and grace. Thank you and please stay safe.
Complimentary Food Bags for Children
We would like to like to inform you of Mountain View Elementary’s Food Drop-Off Event. This event will take place on Friday, November 6. All families are welcome to participate. School buses will arrive in your community for contactless drop off. Or we invite you to stop by and pick up a bag for your family on November 6. Bags will be available until the food supply runs out. Food bags may include non-perishable food items such as granola bars, cereal, and pasta.
If you would like a food bag for your children, please call 434-293-7455 or text 434-981-1241 or email bhandrich@k12albemarle.org. We will need to know how many children you have so that we know how much food to prepare. Please contact Brad Handrich if you have questions. Thank you!
Immersion Update
Thank you to immersion families for your helpful responses to our “Survey Supplement ~ Immersion MVES” sent out last week. More than 200 of you offered your views and provided data we needed. We read every comment.
Of the responses:
20% of you chose to prioritize a blend of in-person and virtual instruction for your child;
40% of you prioritized keeping your child in the current virtual model, and
40% of you want our immersion program to remain a top priority for your family.
We hope the survey gave you some insight into our complex planning process we are following to ensure your child’s success once Stage 3 begins on November 9. We understand many of you have concerns and appreciate that you have shared those concerns with us. Your input has given our planning team the information we needed to think creatively.
One of the most valuable benefits of our approach is that, with your support, we will be able to provide our immersion program in both our in-person and virtual learning modes for all grade levels. The weekly schedules may look different but we are excited about the continued opportunities we will offer our children.
Toy Lift Reminder
Please complete online survey complete by November 3 in order to participate.
It’s hard to believe we are talking about holidays already. However, many organizations like Toy Lift are starting early to adjust for current situations.
If your family needs assistance from the Toy Lift, you must complete the voucher on-line. The deadline to submit your form on-line is Tuesday, November 3, 2020.
Here is the link to the online voucher:

Spanish Form: https://bit.ly/30Pka64
Some things to keep in mind:
Toy Lift will not accept bike requests this year.
According to Toy Lift, the earlier you apply the better chance they have of being able to meet your child’s wish list request.
If you have children at Burley Middle School and Mountain View, please consider selecting one school as your pick-up location for all of your children. Picking up at one location will help eliminate multiple pick-up stops for you and your family.
If you have questions or concerns, please text Donalee
