MSTEP Testing is Around the Corner
Each spring, the State of Michigan and the US Department of Education (USDE) require us to assess students in certain subject areas through the M-STEP, PSAT and SAT. The assessments provide the district with a snapshot of student achievement at the state, district, and building levels. Individual student results will also be shared with parents.
The tentative assessment dates for M-Step are as follows:
3rd Grade
Wednesday, April 19 - ELA
Tuesday, April 25 - Math
4th Grade
Thursday, April 27 - ELA
Tuesday, May 2 - Math
5th Grade
Thursday, April 20 - ELA
Wednesday, April 26 - Math
Thursday, May 4 - Social Studies
Wednesday, May 10 - Science
6th Grade
Wednesday, May 3 - ELA
Tuesday, May 9 - Math
Please ensure that your child is well rested on their testing day. They should come to school with a fully charged iPad .
Cell Phones and Social Media
We care deeply about our Eagles and want to continue partnering with our families to help raise responsible, productive digital citizens.
The bulk of the peer issues that we handle in the older grades, stem, in some way, shape, or form, from misuse of texting and social media platforms. Although these issues typically originate out of school, they often have a profound impact on the culture and climate of our school building and the ways in which students interact throughout the day.
Parents- If your child has a cell phone or utilizes social media at home, please consider discussing the following couple of points with your child.
* Being part of giant group chats/text threads almost always results in problems. Kids negatively participating in group chats often have constant peer issues- with rumors swirling amongst peers about the latest thing they've said. Students that are quiet participants of these groups are often exposed to extremely vulgar language and unnecessary negativity that can impact their mental health. Urge your child to remove themselves from large group threads.
* Teachers, the principal, and school staff are often privy to the content of outside text/chat threads- with students and parents 'screenshotting' portions of the threads and sending them to us to help mitigate the issues at school, as best we can. Remind your child not to send/post anything that they wouldn't want you, as the parent, to read or us, as school staff members, to read. Once they send something out into the world, they can't take it back.
Also, just a reminder that for students who need to bring their cell phones to school, our policy requires that all student cell phones are silenced or powered off and kept in backpacks from 8:30-3:30 each day.
We appreciate our parents, in advance, for echoing the above messaging to your child at home.
Weekly Character Club Awards
Throughout the year, we will be honoring our students with Character Club Awards. Teachers are already working to determine students that exemplify all of the different character strengths for the whole year. Each week, we will be distributing Character Awards to some of our students. At the end of each month, student award recipients will have a Character Club lunch together to celebrate our positive character!
Below are the winners for this week's Character Trait.
