Kindergarten News
- Kindergarten will be learning about animals. We will get some hands on fun with animals through our Pine Knoll Shores Aquarium field trip on June 5th and the Barnhill school visit on June 12th. We also had hands on experience raising some critters in our rooms (butterflies and ladybugs) thanks to the PTO.
- We are very excited to remember an amazing year with our end of the year celebrations. Each teacher will schedule a time for families to come and celebrate our little learners in the classroom! Watch for more information from your classroom teacher.
First Grade News
It was a year of many firsts in first grade! During the last few weeks of school we will spend time reviewing concepts from throughout the year so we are prepared for next year. Throughout June review will occur in writing, reading and math. In science we'll continue to explore the needs and environments of plants and animals. As we move into summer please remember students can access Reading Eggs and iReady math at home. Both of these resources are free and can help keep skills sharp. Epic Books (https://www.getepic.com/) has a fantastic summer promotion- just $3.00 all summer. We all worked very hard to make up lost time due to Florence so ensuring students are reading every day throughout the summer can help prevent the summer slide. The grade level end of year positive behavior block party will be June 12th for all 1st grade students who earned $91 Bulldog Bucks. Information about end of year celebrations will be provided from your child's teacher. Families, thank you for your support throughout the year, it was a great one!
Second Grade News
As we approach the end of the school year, we want to remind you that learning takes place everywhere and not just in the classroom. This summer we encourage you to continue to grow your child as a learner by helping your child to practice some math skills such as recognizing coins and counting change, telling time, addition and subtraction with regrouping as well as continuing to read daily. This summer your child can earn a free book through the Barnes & Noble Summer Reading Program for kids in Grades 1 -6. Find more information at www.barnesandnoble.com.

Fourth Grade News
- Fourth grade continues to work on many new concepts. Our students are working hard to finish the year strong. In reading, we have finished up working on figurative language and how authors use it to enhance his/her writing. We are now working on myths and how allusions are used within myths to make connections. We are going to be working on narrative writing samples and continue to practice using the writing process. We will also continue to have a focus on the conventions of writing such as grammar, spelling, punctuation, and capitalization. As we draw closer to end of grade testing, 4th grade is working on review of EOG vocabulary and preparing through the practice of reading passages and answering comprehension questions.
- In math, we are working on our last cluster (9) which covers measurement and measurement conversions in the metric system. Students will continue to practice all concepts and use strategies from previous math clusters, as we continue to review and prepare for EOG testing.
- Please ensure students are charging his/her laptops each night! It is imperative they have a fully charged laptop each day at school.
*All library books are due to be turned into the library by May 31.
