Principal's Note
The Big Rocks:
1. Time Management- create a school schedule that puts learning first and stick to your schedule.
2. Communication: make sure you are participating in two way communication with your instructors: email, phone, Google Meets, communicating within the Buzz platform, etc.
3. Organization: Keep track of your pacing guides, so you know what is coming up and what you should be preparing for. If you want to take "time off" make sure you are planning ahead and working ahead of pace. The goal is to always stay on track or ahead of your pacing guide.
Remember, we are here for you. Connect with your teachers and reach out to us if you have questions or need support.

MISS. SIMONS- SCHOOL COUNSELOR (GRADES K-5)
Hello, WAVE families! My name is Miss Simons, and this is my sixth year as an elementary school counselor in the Wausau School District. I went to school at UW-River Falls and worked as a Parent Educator in Western WI before settling in Wausau.
In my free time I enjoy snuggling my tiny dog, Polly. Sometimes she acts more like a ferret than a dog! I also love to read, craft, and sing, especially musical soundtracks. I have recently gotten involved in some local community theater, which has been a blast!
As your school counselor, I am here to support your social and emotional learning. If you are needing some extra guidance around friendships, family changes, school readiness, etc., please reach out to me or your teacher and we will set up a time to chat! My email is lsimons@wausauschools.org and my phone number is 715-261-0197. I look forward to working with you this school year!

Academic & Career Planning (ACP) for Grades 6-12
What you should know:
1. This is not a graded course, but it is required that students complete the embedded activities.
2. This course takes students through grade level academic and career planning material (required by the state of Wisconsin.)
3. This course will utilize Xello. (Most Wausau School District students will have familiarity with this already.)
4. It is expected that students work through their grade level material by the end of the school year.
5. Juniors will have ACT prep as part of their 11th grade ACP module.
Let us know if you have any questions!

School Sports/Clubs/Activities Grades 6-12
AND...
Students have the opportunity to participate in clubs/sports/activities at Wausau East, Wausau West, John Muir, and Horace Mann.
If you live in the Wausau School District, you can participate in these activities at your brick and mortar school of residence (i.e. Westside students participate at John Muir / West, Eastside students participate at Horace Mann/ East.)
If you live out of District, you will have a one time opportunity to align with either the West or Eastside schools for the purpose of participating in sports and activities.
How to get involved:
- Call the brick and mortar school you would be participating at
- Let them know you are a WAVE student and share the event /sport you want to be part of
- The activities director / coach / advisor at that school will help you get involved
- (Bring your WAVE ID with you when you attend in-person activities.)
HAVE FUN! WAVE students have the flexibility of 24/7 learning and the opportunity to participate in the "extras" within the District.

Hot Spots
Once again the Wausau School District is able to provide families who are lacking adequate internet connectivity with a US Cellular Hotspot. To obtain a Hotspot, a parent or guardian will need to complete and return a WiFi Hotspot Contract. Once a completed contract is received by your child’s school, a hotspot can be checked out from your child’s school.
Key Points:
Hotspots are for school work and instruction only - no personal use
They are filtered in the same manner as school-issued devices
Hotspots can be checked out for the entire school year
They must be returned in good working order, damage free, and with all components
Damaged and unreturned hotspots will result in a fee of $99.00
Missing charging components will result in a fee of $25.00
If you are interested in obtaining a US Cellular Hotspot, please contact your child’s school or return a completed WiFi Hotspot Contract to your child’s school.
Thank you,
