Mrs. Mathe's Message
I hope you all have an amazing spring break! Rest, go on adventures, and take time to make memories with your family. You only get 18 spring breaks with your child(ren), so whether it is a big or small memory, take time to do something together.
Welcome Mrs. Anderson
On Tuesday, at a special board meeting, the Conroe ISD Board of Trustees elected Mrs. Erin Anderson to be the next principal of Powell Elementary starting in June. If you have lived in the Powell community for a while, Erin may be a familiar face. She started her teaching career here at Powell, then served as assistant principal before moving to Oak Ridge Elementary for a couple years where she served as assistant principal. We are exctied to welcome Erin back to the Powell community! Erin and I will work toghether for the remainder of the spring semester as we transition to our new positions for next school year.

3rd and 4th Skating in PE
We are very excited about our upcoming skating unit and we are looking forward to giving our students the opportunity to learn how to skate. The unit will take place March 27th -April 6th and each class will skate four times. 4th Grade will skate every day from 1:10-2:05 and 3rd Grade will skate 2:05-3:00. All equipment is provided for the students so purchasing new equipment is not necessary. However, they may bring their own supplies if they wish. Students will be required to wear a helmet, kneepads, elbow pads, and wrist protectors. If students are borrowing our helmets, they must bring a baseball cap or some other type of head cover that will fit underneath a helmet. This is always an anticipated event for our students and a great reward for all of their hard work preparing for and completing the STARR exam.
In order for your child to skate we will need each parent to sign a permission slip. We will be sending home permission slips this next week, but we also have it attached for those who want to print it out and sign.
During our two weeks of skating your child’s special schedule will be different so that all classes can skate four times. Attached you will find the schedules for 3rd and 4th grades for those two weeks we are skating. We will also be sending home the schedule with your students next week.
Most importantly, we need volunteers for the two weeks we are skating. If you are interested in volunteering, please sign up with the Sign-up Genius that is linked with this memo. The students will need help putting on equipment, as well as, extra supervision so we can keep the risk of injury to a minimum. Any help you could give us is greatly appreciated. If you want to volunteer please look at the schedule so you know when your child is skating. Thank you in advanced for volunteering. If have any questions, please contact Mrs. Owens at powens@conroeisd.net or Mr. Kirbo at bkirbo@conroeisd.net.
Thank you,
Pam Owens
