Drop Off / Pick Off Procedure Reminders
I wanted to send out a reminder of our drop off procedures at Ekstrand as we look to start another school year. These procedures are in place to ensure the safe arrival of all our students who are being dropped off in the circle drive. Please assist us by following these guidelines and allowing for the safe arrival of all students at our building.
1. Please have your child get out of your vehicle on the curbside (right side). We are asking parents to please stay in their vehicles while your child exits the car to not impede the flow of traffic.
2. Please say your good-byes to your child(ren) prior to going through the circle drive. This allows us to maintain a steady pace around the circle drive , and allows parents to get through the drop off zone quicker and arrive at their next destination in a timely manner. If you feel it necessary to assist your child out of the car please park your car on 15th street and drop off or walk your child up the side walk that leads to the front doors.
3. Please pull up past the cones. We strive to get three cars just beyond the crosswalk.
4. Do not park in the circle drive. If you need to go in the building, please park on the street and walk-up the side-walk leading to the front doors.
5. Children arriving prior to 8 a.m. and not eating breakfast will go around back and wait to enter the building. Breakfast is served in the cafeteria from 7:40- 8:00 a.m.
6. Please inform grandparents, daycare providers, or anyone different than yourself that may pick up your child, so they are informed of our drop off procedures.
Thanks for your assistance in following these guidelines. Our staff has your child's safety as their number one priority. If you have any concerns or questions, please contact me.
CHANGES TO EKSTRAND LUNCH
Guidance
Guidance:
Welcome to a new school year! Getting back into a routine can be a struggle for some; especially waking up for school time again! :) Below are some tips on making the transition to school a little easier.
· Establish a bedtime routine and stick with it-be sure that your child is getting
enough sleep.
· The night before, lay out clothes and get backpack together (make sure that you
have your child assist with this to teach responsibility).
· Make sure your child eats a good breakfast.
· If packing a lunch make sure to include more healthy things other than sweets or chips.
You can also leave an encouraging note for them.
· Establish a good line of communication with the teacher so that you can be aware
of any changes in behavior or academic progress that your child may be
experiencing.
· Set aside time after school for homework and to check your child’s folder.
· Do not over schedule your child in extracurricular activities. I suggest one activity
at a time.

WATCH D.O.G.S., a K-3 program at Ekstrand Elementary which invites fathers, grandfathers, uncles, or other father figures to volunteer at least one day all day at their child’s/student’s school during the school year. Fathers and father figures sign up to volunteer at the Pizza Party or by contacting Mrs. Johnson. WatchDOG dads and volunteers perform a variety of tasks during their volunteer day including monitoring the school entrance, assisting with unloading and loading of buses and cars, monitoring the lunch room, or helping in the classroom with a teacher’s guidance by working with small groups of students on homework, flashcards, or spelling.
