School Safety Community Night
School Safety Community Night
November 14
District 204 is partnering with local law enforcement agencies for a School Safety Community Night presentation from 7 to 8 pm on Wednesday, November 14 at Waubonsie Valley High School.
Safety topics include what parents should teach their younger children to help keep them safe, the district’s partnership with police and how school resource officers work with staff and students, ALICE training in schools, a new program that involves a school safety dog, and how students and parents can report safety concerns.
All District 204 parents are invited to attend this event. Children are encouraged to attend at their parents’ discretion.
An RSVP is appreciated, but not required at http://ipsd.us/C8LMZ.
5 Essentials Student Survey
Students in grades fourth through twelve across Illinois have the opportunity to participate in the Illinois 5Essentials Survey starting mid-November. This is the seventh year the Illinois State Board of Education will implement this survey across the state. This survey is based on 20 years of research at the University of Chicago. It asks students about their experiences in school, giving school leaders critical student input to help develop school improvement plans.
Student participants will be required to log-in using their student ID and birth date in order to complete the survey. Students’ identities will be completely confidential. Teachers or administrators will never see individual responses to survey questions and will only receive aggregated information, such as the total percentage of students who agree homework assignments help them learn course material.
Please be aware that under the Protection of Pupil Rights Act. 20 U.S.C. Section 1232(c) (1) (A), you have the right to review a copy of the questions asked of your student(s). Survey questions will be posted soon on the Illinois 5Essentials website at https://Illinois.5-essentials.org.
If you do not want your son or daughter to participate, please contact your child’s school by November 15, 2018.
GMS PDAC Invitation
This year District 204’s Parent Diversity Advisory Council (PDAC) has chosen a theme of “Parents as Effective Partners.” Studies have shown a direct link between parent involvement and student success, so we’d like to invite you to join the Gregory branch of PDAC to continue this conversation. We’ll discuss how to increase engagement & create connections with a goal of “strengthening the home & school bond.” We are seeking feedback regarding your experiences and ideas. Please join us on Monday Nov. 12 at 11am for great conversation!
Contact your student’s counselor with any questions or concerns.
Gift Mart
Student Council is Looking for Toy Donations for GiftMart 2018! This year our school will once again partner with Gift Mart Wheatland Community in holding a toy drive to benefit under-resourced children in Indian Prairie School District 204! Please consider donating a new, unwrapped toy that is safe for children ages 6-12. No stuffed animals or board games, please. Gift Mart donation boxes are located at the main doors. Thank you for your generosity and participation! Please contact Ms. Zientek, Miss Moore, or this website for more details: www.communitygiftmart.org.
Depression & Suicide Prevention Presentations
Mrs. Leibfried & Ms. Koehler will be presenting in Mrs. Burnopp's health class this week during their quarter 2 mental health unit. We will spend two days educating students about teen depression, the signs of suicide and how to get help. We hope this class discussion helps create awareness, eliminates the stigma associated with mental illness, and empowers teens to take charge of their mental health. Feel free to contact Mrs. Leibfried or Ms. Koehler with any questions or concerns. You can also preview our presentation in your child’s Counselor Connection Google Classroom.
