Principal Message
Getting Closer!
Thursday and Friday of this week were the first days for students to transition back to closer seating in the lunchroom. Although we are sensitive to the variety of comfort levels and feelings of inclusion, we noticed that students were happy to be able to sit more closely, communicate, and interact with one another. We allowed students to choose where they sit within the tables that were assigned to them. That was a new experience for them to sit with new peers and get to know different students each day. Feel free to talk to your children about how they felt about the new lunch procedures. Classroom teachers also had these conversations with students in their classrooms.
In addition, tiger trunk returned this week during lunch. If your child came home on Thursday or Friday of this week asking for money, it is likely due to our PTO tiger trunk. Tiger trunk is a school store that has supplies and trinkets that are a fundraising opportunity for the PTO. Students LOVE the tiger trunk and it provides excitement and energy. However, it is optional. Most items are a dollar or so. There is no need to send your child with a significant amount of money. Tiger trunk also provides an opportunity for families to purchase trinkets for the class for their child’s birthday. Birthday gift certificates for the class can be purchased in the school office.
We are continuing to plan traditional school events as they looked previously. Field day, 5th grade musical, and some field trips are just a few examples. We are excited to see the energy of the building as we events again. We look forward to volunteers being back in the building and at school events.
For those students and families that have been at GRE for some time may remember what the events and schooling looked like previously. However, our younger students or new GRE families will be unaware of how lunch occurred, what field trips were like, or what collaboration looks like without technology. Therefore, we are continuing to be cognizant of the needs, comfort, and experiences of all our students.
Thank you for your confidence in us to be able to support your child and the overall diverse needs of each student during these past few years. Each staff member at GRE has put significant time and effort into the care of students. The pandemic took a toll on the academic and social emotional status of our students. We can’t pretend that life will return to the pre-pandemic status and progression. However, we will continue to do what we have always done - care, understand, and meet the needs of each student.
Thank you,
Pete Kurty, Ed. D
Principal

Stop Motion in Google Slides
Do you remember stop motion clay animated videos from decades ago? The current version of that is using stop motion using Google Slides. Through a collaboration with Mrs. Gould, in the media center, and Ms. Scarpa, in art, 4th and 5th grade students created a stop motion video using multiple Google slide frames. Each frame has objects move just slightly in order to create a move, similar to a flip book. In presentation mode and advancing the slides quickly, you can see it in movie-like form. Student were required to incorporate a setting, at least 2 characters, at least 3 different movements (direction, distance), and having a problem and solution.
You can see a few sample videos below:
Example 1 (100 slides total)
Example 2 (550 slides total)
Example 3 (730 slides total)

Volunteering & Background Check Information
As we start to have volunteers in the building and at school events again, it is important to know the volunteer and background check procedures. As a Volunteer, Do I Need to Complete a Background Check?
You WILL NOT need a background check if you:
• Are in the presence of a Dublin City Schools employee while with students
• Volunteer to help with a class party or other one time events
• Sell tickets at a school event (athletics, drama, etc.)
• Volunteer in the office
• Make copies or perform duties/special projects for the school
You WILL need a background check if you:
• Will be working with students while not in the presence of a Dublin City Schools employee
• Volunteer in a classroom, the cafeteria, or on the playground on a recurring basis
• Attend school field trips, band camps, etc.
• Are a volunteer coach
Click HERE to begin the background check process. It only takes 5 minutes. If you have gone through the online BIB Background check process and have received your personalized identification card, we would like you to start wearing it when volunteering at GRE. Please stop by the GRE Office to pick up a badge holder and clip for your volunteer badge and you can wear that instead of a volunteer sticker.
If you have not gone through the background check process, please consider taking a moment to do this at
