Welcome to the new design of the Chase County 4-H newsletter! This month, you will be receiving the newsletter online, via text and in hard copy. Please use the 4-H Calendar and Livestock ID Requirements page during the 2022 4-H year.
February-Nebraska 4-H Month!
We’re kicking #NE4HMonth off with 4-H Spirit Day on Wednesday, February 2nd! Wear a lot of green, your favorite 4-H shirt, or the 4-H emblem, and show off your 4-H Spirit on social media using #iBelong!
4-H Enrollment is OPEN!
The 4HOnline enrollment system has been updated! Use the link below to log in, or go to v2.4honline.com to enroll. User emails and passwords are the same-do not create a new account. 4-H Enrollment in Nebraska is open through June 15, 2022, but the EARLY BIRD DISCOUNT for Chase County runs through March 1! All members who enroll by/on March 1, 2022 pay $10 per member in enrollment fees. March 2-June 15 enrollment fees are $20 per member.

All members, leaders and volunteers are required to submit a new enrollment every year to remain active!
Pick Your Project
What projects should I take? What options are there? Wondering what to choose in 2022? Take a look at the Pick Your Project resource and don't forget looking at the 2021 Fair Book. Although the Fair Book changes slightly every year, it is still a great resource when you are thinking about new projects. Questions? Call the office!
Celebrate 4-H and help Grow 4-H in Chase County!
Help us celebrate Nebraska 4-H month! Chase County 4-H Council invites you to a movie and activity in February. Come to the movie theater after school for a movie, with popcorn and drink. After the movie we will make a craft. INVITE A FRIEND! Help Chase County 4-H Grow! Waiting to confirm the date-watch your email for more details!
County Fair Livestock Nominations (ID Sheets/Photos)
- All Livestock ID Sheets for the Chase County Fair are due to the Extension Office by Wednesday, June 1, 2022! ID Sheets (Affadavits) may be picked up from the Extension Office or accessed on our website:
- https://extension.unl.edu/statewide/perkins-chase/4-h-livestock-resources/
- Market Beef/Hogs are required to have tags. Tags may be picked up from the Extension Office.
- Breeding Beef-ID Sheet with date of birth required. ID may be a tattoo or herd ID tag.
- Breeding Swine-EID tag or Swine Tag. Available at Office.
- ALL Sheep/Goats-Scrapies Tags Required. Available at Office.
- No ID Requirements for Poultry.
- Rabbits-ID Sheet. Available at office or online.

State Fair Livestock Requirements
Taking livestock projects to State Fair? Plan now! Here is what you need to do:
*Enroll in 4-H
*Exhibitors must be 10 years old 4-H Age (as of Jan. 1) to show livestock at State Fair
*Market Beef/Swine-Tag with EID tags and collect DNA Sample-return to office
*Breeding Beef-Tattoo (make sure it is legible before State Fair, commercial Breeding Beef may use tattoo or EID tag )
*All Sheep/Goats-Scrapies Tags
*Market Sheep/Goats-collect DNA Sample-return to office
*Have a Premisis ID (see attached link)
*Nominate All Animals Online by June 15 in Show Stock Manager
Volunteer Help Needed at the Imperial Movie Theater
For Nebraska 4-H Month, lend a hand and volunteer at the movie theater! Great for a club activity or for a group of 4-H Friends. This is an excellent way to add Community Involvement/Service Learning to your Achievement Application (Record Book)! Call 882-4368 to volunteer!
Public Speaking Contest
Start writing your speeches-the Chase County 4-H Speech, PSA and Music Contest is Sunday, April 3! Preform a musical piece, record and submit a PSA (Public Service Announcement, recite a poem (first year speakers and Clover Kids), or deliver an original speech-there is something for everyone! More information to follow. Call the office with questions- 882-4731.

The Chase County 4-H Calendar is available! Keep the hard copy for reference. An online copy is always available on our website! Many dates and deadlines have already been set!
Hard Copy or Online
Would you rather read your 4-H newsletter in hard copy or online? What about the Chase County 4-H fair book? You get to choose! Return the paper included in this newsletter and let us know if you would be accessing information online or in hard copy. Paper fair books will only be printed if the request form is returned.The first 4-H member who comes to the office and says they have read this article in the February Newsletter will receive a FREE 4-H T-Shirt!
Nebraska 4-H Farrowed and Owned Swine Cohort
Time is quickly running out to apply for the 2022 Farrowed & Owned Swine Cohort! Application forms are due this Tuesday, February 1st. Apply now at 4h.unl.edu/farrowed-owned.
In celebration of #NE4HMonth, Nebraska 4-H Camps is giving away a FREE Summer Camp session plus a welcome package and a $50 transportation or camp store credit! Looking for a new project to try out in 2022? The Special Agronomy Project is a new opportunity allowing youth to cultivate a crop that is, was, or has the potential to be grown in Nebraska. This year’s project will focus on the Broomcorn Sorghum. Learn more at cropwatch.unl.edu/special-agronomy-project.

2022 Special Garden Project-Rubenza Cosmos
The Special Garden Project is a way to offer 4-H members the chance to grow unusual and fun projects in their gardens. The 2022 Special Garden Project is focused on the Rubenza Cosmos. The flowers of the Rubenza are unique, the petals change color as they age. Pollinators and beneficial insects are attracted to the blooms all summer long. These cosmos make great cut flowers. Be sure to enjoy a bouquet of Rubenza indoors.
Youth should enroll for the Special Garden Project through 4-H Online.
