OLVCS Updates
February 3, 2023
Dear Families and Friends of Our Lady of Victory Catholic School,
We had a great Catholic Schools Week this year. With no delays or snow days we were able to celebrate a full week for the first time in many years with Sunday Mass, Jeopardy, Trivia, Dress-like-a-book-character, and a Door-Decorating Contest. Also, today is also the Feast of Saint Blaise, so our children had their throats blessed. I anticipate that our absentee lists will be shorter in the weeks to come.
We will wrap up the week with our annual 8th grade vs. Faculty Volleyball Game this afternoon. Last evening, our 8th Grade basketball players were recognized for their efforts on the court (pictures below), so I’m sure that with the athleticism they demonstrate we will have a challenging match this year. If the faculty wins, I will be sure to publicize the score.
Thank you for supporting our food drive this week. Last week, with everyone’s support, we were able to give $500 to the PSU Thon. As always, thanks for your generosity!
Please check out the rest of our newsletter for more of what is coming up in the near future, and please consider one of the opportunities advertised below to help our school.
Warm wishes this cold weekend,
Jim Hoy

OLVCS Athletics Updates
8th Graders Celebrate With Band Tunes, the Crusader Crew, and Wins!
Yesterday the coaches and teammates of our Crusader Basketball teams honored the 8th grade players for their hard work and leadership. The OLV band added to the festivities with lots of peppy tunes, and ASAP Crusader Crew provided a “thunderous” halftime show. The teams played well yesterday; both games finished up with wins for OLVCS!
Thank you to all who came out, especially the OLVCS teachers and staff, to cheer on the Crusaders to victory at this special game. Additional thanks to the OLVCS team coaches, Ruthie Straub, Lea McCartney, Matt Steyers, and Max Krasowitz for their dedication to our student-athletes this season.
Boys Basketball Team On Four Game Winning Streak
The Crusader boys “A team” added their fourth win in four games yesterday at the re-match against Meadowbrook Christian. The first win was last week at the home of the Meadowbrook Christian Lions: 37 to 21. The second was at home on Jan 30th against East Juniata: 35 to 18. The third was against Philipsburg-Oseola: 46 to 26. And the fourth was in yesterday’s game.
The Crusader girls played back-to-back games against Meadowbrook Christian and won both: 21 to 17 on Friday, and 32 to 23 yesterday. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams finish out their regular season next week. Check the online calendar for game dates and times.

Peters, Surovec, and Mattis are all OLVCS grads. Gignate and Surovec are joining the soccer teams at Waynesburg University and Franciscan University of Steubenville, respectively. Peters will be playing golf at Millersville University, and Mattis will be joining the gymnastic team at State University of New York (SUNY) Brockport.
Bishop Mark Visits Saint Joseph’s
Last Tuesday, Bishop Mark Bartchak was on Saint Joseph’s campus throughout the morning. After speaking with students at the weekly Chapel, he toured the school with WolfPack Ambassadors Colin Simander, Taylor James, Max Rossman, Ava Calistri, and Brandi Carmack. While Bishop Mark is familiar with Saint Joseph’s, he was able to experience it anew through the stories and perspective of these five student ambassadors. Bishop Mark enjoyed lunch with the students and shared many stories – including a few about meeting Pope Benedict and Pope Francis!
