CHS Update January 13, 2023
Semester 2
Welcome Back
Student and Family Message for 1/13
As you may know, some of our CHS students have voiced concerns since the school board meeting held in December. Student leaders representing different groups on campus across the district have been working together and communicating through social media and other venues.
On campus today, some of our students (approximately 100 students) staged a student-led walkout to a location off campus. The walkout was conducted in a respectful, safe, and orderly manner. Chaparral High School does not endorse any student-led protests or walkouts and as such, our classrooms continued with planned intervention and instruction. Staff did not attempt to stop any student who chose to leave class for the purpose of protest, in alignment with students’ first amendment rights. Administration, school staff, our school resource deputy, campus security, and Riverside Sheriff Dept. motor units were present during the walkout to ensure student safety. Students who were not in class were marked absent. Students who returned late to class were marked tardy.
As educators, our goal is to provide rigorous teaching and learning in the classroom while keeping our students safe. We do have a district safety protocols, and those protocols were followed today.
