As someone who is already familiar with Marshall, you already know what it takes to move your education forward. Now you can achieve even more and take your degree to the next level with a master's degree in business from MU.

Earn a degree that matches your ambition. Our graduate business programs help you get where you want to be, whether it's promoted at a Fortune 500 company, improving operations at a non-profit organization, becoming an entrepreneur and starting your own business, preparing to become a CPA, managing a human resource office, or being an administrator in health care.

More than a decade of research conducted by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), the global non-profit council of business schools and creator of the GMAT exam, reveals two truths – business school graduates with a master degree are highly employable and credit their degrees for the opportunity to advance in their careers.

Top 10 Reasons to get your Graduate Degree in Business

  1. Make more money: According to the US Census Bureau, a person with a Master’s degree will make, on average, $200 more a week than their coworkers with bachelor’s degrees. This adds up to $800 more a month, or $9,600 more a year. Multiply this by approximately 40 years of work, and you could stand to make almost $400,000 more than your average co-worker.
  2. Better job title: In today’s day and age, image means everything. If you have a strong image, with an “MBA” or “MS” after your name, you put yourself in a better position to get the jobs and salary you want and feel you deserve.
  3. Research: Working towards a graduate degree will afford you the chance to do research, which will help to establish you as an expert in your field.
  4. Extra career mobility: When you earn an advanced degree, your job prospects broaden because you are now considered qualified to be a manager. If you are unhappy with your current entry-level position, a Master’s or other advanced degrees could be your ticket to management.
  5. New career connections: When you return to school as a graduate student, either full-time or part-time, you will interact with teachers and other students who have connections in the work world, in your area of work. Chances are, your teacher was once in your line of work, so by becoming friends with your professor and working hard in your professor’s class, you can use school as a networking opportunity.
  6. New skill set: An advanced degree provides you advanced training. Advanced training leads to stronger skills, which leads to better work, which leads to a better job. Enough said.
  7. Strengthen old skills: Should you choose to return to school for a master’s degree in your current field of work, taking advanced classes will also reinforce and strengthen the skills you have already started to hone in your job.
  8. Career change possibilities: A graduate degree can also be used as a way to change careers or to reverse your career direction. While you may be required to take a few undergraduate courses to meet the entrance requirements for a graduate degree in a different field than your undergraduate course of study, the courses are usually minimal and it is possible to gain entrance to a new field.
  9. Proven work ethic: A graduate degree now says what a bachelor’s degree said 40 years ago: “I’m willing to go the extra mile.” Everyone has a bachelor’s degree today, so going above and beyond the necessary shows your potential or current employer that you are willing to do the work to move your career, and therefore the company, forward.
  10. Learn from the best: Lastly, you should return to graduate school because you enjoy learning, you enjoy the subject, and you enjoy challenging yourself. It is an opportunity to learn from qualified business professors and seasoned business professionals.
