School Library Day-April 4th nationally
NATIONAL SCHOOL LIBRARIAN DAY
April 4th is National School Librarian Day. It is set aside to honor all school librarians. School librarians spend long hours keeping the library organized, helping our children find the resources they need to keep learning and are dedicated to creating an environment they can learn in every day of the year. All of this hard work often goes unappreciated.
The school librarians aid our youth in many ways, and their patience sets an example for our children on a daily basis.
HOW TO OBSERVE

National Library Week
National Library Week will be observed April 10-16, 2016 with the theme, "Libraries Transform."
First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April. It is a time to celebrate the contributions of our nation's libraries and librarians and to promote library use and support. All types of libraries - school, public, academic and special - participate.
Celebrations during National Library Week include: National Library Workers Day, celebrated the Tuesday of National Library Week (April 12, 2016), a day for library staff, users, administrators and Friends groups to recognize the valuable contributions made by all library workers.
History
In the mid-1950s, research showed that Americans were spending less on books and more on radios, televisions and musical instruments. Concerned that Americans were reading less, the ALA and the American Book Publishers formed a nonprofit citizens organization called the National Book Committee in 1954. The committee's goals were ambitious. They ranged from "encouraging people to read in their increasing leisure time" to "improving incomes and health" and "developing strong and happy family life."
In 1957, the committee developed a plan for National Library Week based on the idea that once people were motivated to read, they would support and use libraries. With the cooperation of ALA and with help from the Advertising Council, the first National Library Week was observed in 1958 with the theme "Wake Up and Read!"
National Library Week was observed again in 1959, and the ALA Council voted to continue the annual celebration. When the National Book Committee disbanded in 1974, ALA assumed full sponsorship.
Dates
National Library Week is observed each year in April, generally the second full week.

Wilmer-Hutchins Elementary Career Day May 25
The Careers Day brings together a wide range of speakers from leading cultural institutions who will share their professional experiences and expertise in areas such as curating, teaching, art management, gallery education, and research.
There will be a series of informal talks followed by Q&A sessions that explore different career possibilities and offer insight into what different career paths might entail, including advice on freelancing.
Refreshments will be provided during breaks, where you will have the chance to chat informally with speakers, and to discuss more specific careers advice.
National Teachers Day May 3rd, National Nurses Day May 6, National Administrative Professional Day May 27
Administrative Professionals Day and Administrative Professionals Week(secretary) are widely observed in many workplaces in the United States and other countries around the world. Many employers and supervisors arrange events to show their appreciation of the work carried out by administrative professionals, to highlight their importance to the organization and to enhance their work-related skills.
National Nurses Week begins each year on May 6th and ends on May 12th, Florence Nightingale's birthday. These permanent dates enhance planning and position National Nurses Week as an established recognition event. As of 1998, May 8 was designated as National Student Nurses Day, to be celebrated annually. And as of 2003, National School Nurse Day is celebrated on the Wednesday within National Nurses Week (May 6-12) each year.
