Mrs. Turley's Tidbits
Week of 11/14 - 11/18
Our First Quarter is Behind Us...On to Second Quarter Work!
Fundations:
This week we learned that the letter "e" is the busiest letter of the alphabet! We've added long vowels to our Morning Routine for Baby Echo. We also now know how to "mark" the vowel-consonant-e format in a syllable. We learned the spelling options for /z/ - it could be a "z" OR an "s"!
Literacy:
We read the Literary Reference book titled Pop! This book explained the invention of bubble gum in a story format. Our Learning Target had us identify the problem in a text and the attempted solutions that happened. It helped emphasize our Growth Mindset that in life, often you have to fail many times before you can succeed. We also read about the creation of M & M's candies. We used this informational text to create a timeline of their production. Finally, we read an informational article about "Hang Tough"... a turtle who had injuries from a fishing hook which ended up causing him to become blind. With this text, we did some "close reading" and highlighted the parts of the text that showed "cause and effect" for Hang Tough.
Math:
We continued Guided Math groups for reviewing our math concepts and skills to prepare for our Unit 2 Post Assessment on Thursday. On Friday we had the opportunity to "retake" the Post Test and attempt to correct our mistakes.
Readers' Theater
We took a bit of a break from our Writing Workshop this week to work on our Common Core Learning Standard SL.2.5 - I can read aloud stories and make my voice come to life. This was an important skill to work on for our Readers' Theater performances. We presented our play, Turk and Runt: A Thanksgiving Comedy for our 5th Grade Buddies during the school day and then to our parents and families at Family Reading Night.
Our Star of the Week...Murtuza!
