Troubles In Claymore
Claymore is filled with violence, drugs and alcohol, but not all people are like that. In the four corners documentry it shows us how the children of Claymore cope with the hard times that they have to live with.
There is barely any adult supervision except for the few expceptions, like the Blake family, the mother of the family, Christen has two kids of her own and also looks after her sisters three children. Her sister was drug dealing, drinking, inviting people over that didnt make the kids feel comfortable and leaving them at home with people they didnt know, so Christen took them in and has been looking after them ever since. She believes that having a job is very important and is trying to in still it in their heads that it is important to make a living for yourself, and Christen was working herself up until 5 months ago when she had her youngest child. She got quite ill after and was unable to go straight back to work afterwoods.
There is a community barbeque in the local park every week, it is the only time the kids of Claymore feel safe enough to beable to go to the park. "It is usually filled with smashed beer bottles, it is where people light things on fire and burn things down, and where sometimes people get attacked and hurt" explains Jacob, who is just one of the many kids in the neighbour hood, who is scared out of their wits to play outside after dark. Many other incidents have happened in Claymore, one girl who is now living with her older sister and her sisters two children, is scared off fire, becuase when she was younger, her hous was burned down. It was two teenagers who were trying to prove themselves to the older boys that they were cool. Everyone got out except for two of her brothers, they were too badly hurt so her father told them to turn their life support off. One of Jacob's friends dad got bashed so severly that he had to go to hospital, but he didnt even know what was going on until the morning after because he was drunk. " I was like drunk, like so drunk" he recalled, but that is all he could tell the presenter, his child could tell us more, he tolds us that he got to ride in the ambulance to the hospital with his dad.
People are saying that we need to pull it all down and start again. But what needs to happen is that the parents of these children need to sort themselves and teach their kids the right things to do, so that they can live the life they want them too.
