Gingerbread House Building
As a tradition in 1st grade, we will be building Gingerbread houses. We have been talking about traditions in Social Studies and fairy tales, folk tales and fables in Reader's workshop. We will spend a five days reading different versions of The Gingerbread Man. To end the unit we will build our very own Gingerbread Houses. We will be sending home a letter that will include a list of items we need donated in order to build gingerbread houses. We need your help! We greatly appreciate the support of volunteers and donating items to be able continue this cherished tradition. If you are interested in volunteering to help build the houses the day before we decorate, we would love the help! Bring a hot glue gun (if you have one) and some patience to help us set those up on Tuesday, December 17th at 9:00 AM. You will need to check in at the office.
Winter Class Party-Thursday December 19th
Our winter class parties will be on Thursday December 19th at 12:15-1:00 pm. If you would like to help, please let our room mothers know. We are sure they would love extra helping hands to pull the parties together. More information will be coming about the parties.

Field Trip to the Perot Museum of Nature and Science
We have been approved for a grade level field trip to the Perot Museum. It is going to be an amazing adventure on Friday, January 17th. We will be asking for students to pay $15 for buses, entrance fee to the 11 permanent exhibits and museum classroom experience about bugs. We must have the signed permission slips (lime green forms) back and have the students paid for before we leave for Winter Break on December 20th. It would also be helpful to know if your student plans to bring a sack lunch from home or buy one from the cafeteria. There was a form that came home last week or you can message your child's teacher on Class Dojo or email.
We are permitted to have 3 chaperones per class- Teachers already connected with those parents who are volunteers for the trip. To be a chaperone you must have a background check through VOLY. Here is the link. https://lewisvilleisd.voly.org/index.html

Cold and Flu season is HERE!
Your child’s health is of great importance. It is that time of year when colds, flu and viruses run wild in schools, churches, and other public places. We will take every precaution to have a healthy and safe environment. Please consider getting a flu shot for yourself and your child. Having the flu is not any fun and can be life threatening for young children.
We would like you to consider keeping your child home if they have fever, diarrhea and vomiting. It is requested that students be symptom free for 24 hours before returning to school. Please don't give your child a fever reducer and send them to school. Our bodies create a fever to fight viruses and to give us a warning that we are sick. When you send a child to school sick you will be impacting 20 plus families in addition to the teachers and their families. Teachers don't like missing days of school due to illness.
If your child becomes ill while at school, we will take them to the school nurse. The nurse will evaluate your child and contact you to let you know if you need to pick your child up. Please keep in mind the only person on campus that can give any medication is our school nurse.
