OES Grade Level Lunches in the Breezeway
Enjoying a meal together is a great way to build and strengthen our classroom communities. This year, every grade level will have a month designated where each class on the grade level will invite their parents to lunch. Each class will have a special designated day to enjoy lunch in the breezeway with their parents. Second grade is October's grade level. See the schedule below for the dates of your second grade student's luncheon event. All parents must have a gold form completed and be cleared to attend.

One School One Book – Reading Schedule for K-2
Hilde Cracks the Case - Hero Dog! By Hilde Lysiak with Matthew Lysiak, Illustrated by Joanne Lew-Vriethoff
An interesting fact about the author Hilde – she was nine-years-old when wrote this book in 2017.
This Reading Event is designed for families to read this story aloud. Follow the schedule below, allowing your child to be prepared to discuss the book with teachers and classmates the next day. Each night as you read; stop and insure your child comprehends the material before continuing. Then after each chapter, review for understanding of the content and vocabulary.
Throughout this week, please assist your child in completing the Literature Study packet written by Noelle Dixon Knight. The activities in the book will require assistance from you – please use this time as a teachable moment; as time, maps, vocabulary, and writing are involved. Students who turn in the completed literature study packet by Friday, October 19, will receive a mini reporter’s notebook and ink pen. Please include child and teacher’s name to the packet. Note: for your pre-planning purposes, page 16 will require the student to interview a person about their job, a skill, or hobby. Page 17 needs to be completed as the story is read. As for pages 18 and 19 – spend time discussing the meaning of reparations with your child – another great teachable moment. If your child would like to share their News Story from page 13 or Poster Design from page 14, please add a note to the front of the packet and include the child and teacher’s name on each sheet when it is returned by October 19. We will display their work.
Each day, there will be questions asked during the morning news about the material read the night before.
