Osborne Observer
Osborne Middle School
To ensure our parents receive information that is timely and relevant, the Osborne Observer is back in full swing and will be published and sent to parents approximately every other week. The Osborne Observer provides a snapshot of happenings, highlights, and stories pertaining to Osborne Middle School. The Observer also provides students and parents an additional planning tool for upcoming events, as well as a look at some of the achievements of our students, staff and school performance. Please don't forget to visit our school's website weekly for the most recent news concerning all that Osborne has to offer. It's going to be a great school year for all.
Parent Portal
Attention Parents!
Many parents know how to log in to their student’s eCLASS page to view grades, but did you know that you can also access them from the Parent Portal? In addition, the Parent Portal offers a more comprehensive picture of your student’s academic life than their eCLASS page. The Parent Portal gives you access to test scores, discipline history, attendance, books checked out, and even your student’s lunch account balance. Another great feature of the Parent Portal is the ability to update phone numbers and contact information online.
If you do not have a Parent Portal account, you will need to visit the school to fill out a registration form, and bring a photo ID to complete the process. Parent Portal accounts carry over from year-to-year and school-to-school, so you do not need to re-register if you already have an active account. Please note that it is vitally important that we have a correct email on file for every parent, because email is the primary mode of communication from OMS and GCPS. Thanks for attending to this very important matter!
Bus Transportation
Bus transportation is provided for all students zoned to attend Osborne Middle. In the interest of student safety, students are highly encouraged to ride the school bus to and from school. If a child is to be a car rider, parents are encouraged to use the designated car pool lane. Parents who elect to park at Mill Creek High School when picking up their child should use extreme caution when crossing the street that leads to the bus lanes and when escorting their child back across the street.
For safety and security reasons, the Transportation Office requests that students ride only their assigned buses. Bus passes are limited to emergencies only (family illness, death in family, car accident, etc.,). Should an emergency occur, students must provide a written note, signed by a parent/guardian and brought to the front lobby receptionists prior to 9:20 am. Bus passes for after school activities cannot be approved.
Afternoon Car Riders
The recommended procedure is for parents to wait in the car rider line to pick up their child. We also ask that parents not arrive to school before 3:30 pm. An alternative car rider procedure currently allows parents to park in the Osborne Walker Lot near the high school tennis courts. Parents who park in this area should get out of their cars, locate their child and walk with them back to their car.
For the safety and security of all stakeholders, please note that students are not allowed to be picked up at the high school bus lanes or the upper high school parking lots. Effective Monday, March 2, students attempting to be picked up at any location other than the regular car rider line or the Osborne Walker lot will be sent back to Osborne Middle and parents will need to pick up their child at school. Thank you for your support as we ensure our car rider students remain safe after school.
Student Password Reset
All previous student passwords have now been changed to their student number. We encourage all OMS students to reset their passwords prior to the first day of school. Instructions for completing this process are available by clicking HERE. Once students reset their passwords, they will have access to the Student Portal and a limited number of eCLASS Course Pages.
My Payments Plus Set-up
If you do not already have a MyPaymentsPlus account set up, go ahead and set one up this week. MyPaymentsPlus will allow you to pay for school contributions as well as sign any school orientation documents. If you are unsure how to set up an account, the videos below will help to guide you through the process.
Student Absences
Osborne Middle School employs a service called SchoolMessenger to assist us with making phone calls home regarding student absences. Parents/guardians should receive an email when a student is not present in homeroom. Please be sure all of your contact information is up to date at all times. If you receive an absence notification, please do one of the following to report your student's absence:
- Email lisa_lane@gwinnett.k12.ga.us with the student's first and last name, the date of the absence, and the reason for the absence.
- Email your student's homeroom teacher with the student's first and last name, the date of the absence, and the reason for the absence.
- Send a note with your student when they return to school. The note should include the student's first and last name, the date of the absence, and the reason for the absence.
Please do NOT call the school to report your student's absence unless you need to speak to the clinic about your student's diagnosis with a communicable disease. Written documentation of all school absences is required.
2019-2020 Student-Parent Handbook
While at school, students are expected to behave in an appropriate manner. Students are expected to practice self-control, a learned behavior in which a student understands the limitations of his or her speech and actions in relation to others. OMS follows the Student Conduct Behavior Code as approved by the GCPS Board of Education. Should students violate these rules, consequences may be assigned. A Student and Parent Handbook that outlines the GCPS Conduct Code is available on the school’s website. Parents are required to acknowledge receiving the Student and Parent Handbook via the MyPaymentsPlus.com website.

Signing Up for 6th Grade Band, Chorus and Orchestra!
Osborne Middle School is proud to offer beginning programs in band, chorus, and orchestra for 6th graders. Sixth grade students will be given an orientation to these music classes during the first week of school. These classes are the only connections classes students and parents are allowed to choose in 6th grade. All three programs have a minimal financial cost to participate (instrument rental, music, shirts, etc.); however, this short term investment will produce long-lasting benefits. These classes often open up a whole new world students and we HIGHLY encourage all 6th grade students to consider this wonderful opportunity.
Summer Reading Program
All former and rising 6th grade OMS students are required to participate in Osborne’s Summer Reading Program. Detailed information about the summer reading program can be found on the Osborne website. Summer reading assignments are due on the first day of school, 8-5-19.
