One School, One Book - World Read Aloud Week
Every year World Read Aloud Week calls attention to the importance of reading. This year, it will take place in Reynolds School from March 2nd-March 6th. Reynolds School will again participate in an all school book club called the One School, One Book program.
Every family will receive a copy of the same book and a reading schedule for the week. Please make time so that your family can participate in this special activity. Reading aloud at home is valuable because it better prepares your child to be an effective reader. But it is also a fun, worthwhile family activity. With the One School, One Book program, we aim to build a community of readers at Reynolds School. Everyone – students, teachers, support staff– will be participating, and we can all reap the many benefits.
Your child will receive a copy of the surprise book at a special school-wide assembly introducing the program and the book on Monday, March 2nd. There will be clues leading up to the big reveal on Monday morning! Our School Committee has planned activities throughout the week for our students to enjoy that are all focused on the theme of the book. We will hold a reading assembly, read together as a school, enjoy mystery readers, meet with the author of our book, and a variety of fun activities throughout the week. We look forward to this wonderful week to continue to foster a love of reading in Reynolds School!
Allergy Awareness Day
On March 11th, Reynolds School will host the 3rd Annual Allergy Awareness Day. Students will participate in a workshop given by Dr. Sherman. The workshop will focus on how students can be a PAL to our friends with allergies. Following the presentation, students will work on a reflection activity in their classrooms that will be displayed around the building.
Our School Safety team, led by Mrs. Whitmore, Mrs. Maginnis and Mrs. Slacin, are coordinating the event with Mrs. Fillis, our school nurse, and our parent representative, Mrs. Kotz.
Classroom Spotlight- Transition Times with Mrs. Levitt
Mrs. Levitt has found a creative way to maximize instructional time during transition periods. Transitions include all of those times when teachers ask students to form groups within the class, as well as the short amount of time that is required by the students to end one activity and prepare for the beginning of another. All the time spent between two activities can be used productively. Smooth transitions are vital to obtain an optimal learning environment, maintain a flow and keep students focused.
Mrs. Levitt uses a variety of Math and Language Arts skills and plays fast paced, engaging games that boost learning in a fun way. Students enjoy games such as: Numbers Before and After, Find The Rule, and I Have, Who Has? The transition games give purpose and are used as a quick filler while making the most a few minutes to spare.
100th Day of School & Valentine's Day Sing
100th Day of School & Valentine's Day Sing
We celebrated the 100th day of school at Reynolds on February 14th. In addition to special activities within their classrooms, students enjoyed our first ever Valentine's Day Sing. We sang, danced, and enjoyed being together as a school community. A special thanks to Mrs. Jarvis for planning this wonderful new event. The day was an exciting celebration of all of the learning that has taken place at Reynolds so far this year.
Kids Heart Challenge
Kids Heart Challenge
At Reynolds School, we supported the American Heart Association by participating in the Kids Heart Challenge during the Week of February 3rd. Mr. Ramirez and Mr. Walis taught students all about having a healthy heart throughout the month of February leading up to this culminating event. Thank you to our Reynolds families for your generous donations to the American Heart Association.
