Words of Inspiration

"One kind word can warm three winter months."

-Japanese Proverb

A Special Applause to...

We are half way to the end of the school year! I want to give a shout out to the new staff for all of the work they have done in the first semester. As we talked about at Montgomery Inn before school started, you were hired to make an impact and you have! Enjoy some time off with family and friends.

PD on the Fly...

In the final PD on the Fly of 2019, this author, Anne Bruder, reflects on her time as a 5th grade student. She was a question asker who was vocal about her curiosity. While students who ask repeated questions in class can be a lot to deal with, this author frames her curiosity through the lens of a growth opportunity. "What I remember most clearly is that each of my questions drove me to another, better question, and that one to an even more refined question."

Now a teacher, Bruder thinks about her students, "On the most basic level, I want my students to ask the questions that my 5th-grade teacher prohibited, ones that disrupt (perhaps not the entirety of my lesson plan, but certainly the status quo, the easy interpretation, the conventional wisdom)."

She goes on to discuss the power of curiosity. "Each time I ask for my students’ permission, I’m reminded of the power and the magic of our most basic teaching tool: to forge connections and help us all move into the unknown together."

We know this is an age where student's interest in school decreases. I also know that we have a community of passionate learners who want more knowledge. Enjoy!
