Pop-Its are all the Rage

Pop-its are all the rage and now they’re a fun Math center too! Manipulatives like Pop-Its are physical objects that can be used as teaching tools to engage students in the hands-on learning of mathematics. They help students connect ideas and integrate knowledge so that they gain a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts. Mrs. Garcia’s first grader Declan said “This game is so fun and it makes me happy to play.” via twitter.com/d123sward

GaGa Champ?

This Kolmar PE student has made his own Gaga ball champion belt for the class. Gaga ball is played with a soft foam ball, and combines the skills of dodging, running, and jumping, while not getting touched by the ball below the knees. Helping students to develop lifelong healthy living habits including finding ways to stay active after leaving our schools is an essential piece to Physical Education. Via twitter.com/d123kolmar

Quite the Entrance!

Have you seen the entrance at Covington Elementary School? Having Covy welcome all students and visitors is an amazing and welcoming addition to the school. “I’m so happy to be able to share my love and passion of art with my students and friends.” -Mrs. Padilla, D123 Art Teacher 💛💜 via twitter.com/d123covington

Making Math Muscles

Fifth grade students at Hannum got started today with daily math practice. Time is built into each day to help students practice and review learning that has already happened or may be upcoming. Focused practice on decimals and fractions are serving to help these fifth graders master some of the foundational skills needed for more advanced mathematics as they move further into the curriculum. Back to School Extravaganza

What better way to welcome back students, families, and staff than an extravaganza! The D123 community came out to Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School last weekend to celebrate the start of the school year.

The event in part sponsored by the D123 Ed Foundation, featured different opportunities for families to enjoy some musical entertainment, a magic show, paint a school bus, grab lunch, and then get all of their energy out with the inflatables and obstacle courses. Many District 123 community partner organizations also attended the event to introduce themselves and provide those in attendance with some of the resources available within our community.
