Dodgeball Information
Dodgeball day is ALMOST HERE!!! Are you excited? I know I am!!
ALL parents, guardians, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc are welcome to come in an play dodgeball against your student. Or you may come to just watch (if you are like me and was always picked last in gym class and you can still hear the specific BONG noise that the old kickball/dodgeballs make when they ricochet off your face).
We will be playing "Jail Break" Dodgeball, which basically means there are a TON of people on each team. When a person is hit with a ball, they move to the "jail holding area" behind the other team. If a person in the jail holding area CATCHES a ball, then they are back in the game and must travel back to their designated side of the gym to continue play. Don't worry, we will be explaining the rules before each game, and it's pretty easy to jump in.
The games will be split up by Teaching Teams. Each team will have 40 minutes of game play. There will be 30 minutes of students vs. students, then the last 10 minutes of each session will be students vs. adults. (The adults include but are not limited to: staff, firefighters, sheriff's office staff, Pickerington Police officers, parents, grandparents, etc.)
If you are planning on joining your child for an intense and all-out game of dodgeball, please click HERE to RSVP.
Lost and Found
Is your child missing an item? Please have them check the LOST AND FOUND in the Cafeteria AND in front of the Media Center. We have a PLETHORA of hoodies, winter coats, lunch boxes and even a single Nike Air Force One shoe. Yep, just one shoe. I have no clue what happened for a student to lose ONE shoe, but it happened. And if it belongs to your child- please tell them to check the lost and found!
Any items still here on 12/18 will be DONATED to a local charity.
Looking for families with traditions!
Harmon is searching for families with their own traditions that would be interested in having a table/booth in the upcoming Night of Engagement. It doesn't have to be a cultural difference display. It can be any PLSD family that has traditions that they would like to share with the community. Examples- Irish Dancing, 4th generation PLSD family that tailgates every football game, any family that has traditions that they would like to share with others.
If this is something you are interested in, please email Kim Bauer- Kim_Bauer@plsd.us
Harmon Needs Help!
Harmon has 3 (yes, THREE) open Duty Aid positions available for immediate availability!
What does this really entail?? Well, I'm glad you asked!
Harmon has 2 separate Duty Aid jobs, Cafeteria and Recess Duty.
Recess Duty is in charge of monitoring classes and Teams while at recess. This includes inside and outside recesses. Recess duty aids are responsible for getting the students safely from recess and into the lunch room.
Cafeteria Duty Aids are in charge of the cafeteria. Making sure all the students are following the flow and proper line procedures, eating lunch whilst remaining SEATED, and making sure the kids are wiping up their area/messes when done eating.
These positions would be from 11:00 am - 1:30 pm (ROUGHLY) daily.
If you are interested in becoming a duty aid, please email Mrs. G at amanda_genheimer@plsd.us .

Counselor's Corner
Lessons with Mrs. Shilling
This month's classroom lesson will be focusing on mental health and the impact of stress on the brain. Looking forward to January we will be talking and learning about Social Justice during guidance lessons!
We are quickly approaching the end of the 2nd quarter. Please check in with your student to see how they are doing and if they have missing assignments. When we return from Winter Break 6th graders will begin planning for their 7th grade classes! More information to come about this.
Harmon students will be participating in several activities during the month of December to raise money for families in need. On December 15, students will participate in a Dodgeball Tournament against the Violet Township Fire Department. Parents don't forget you are welcome to come and participate in our dodgeball tournament! You can sign up here! Please donate unwrapped gifts to the red box in the main offices. Teams are participating in a competition for extra recess. The team with the most donated gifts will receive extra recess!
Just for funsies
Thoughts from Mrs. G
I am SO READY for cold weather!! I know I'm definitely in the minority with this one- and I'm ok with that! Fun fact, I'm from Wisconsin and I miss it terribly pretty much all the time. I grew up moving across the country every few years (Navy brat) but my whole family is from and in Wisconsin, so that has always been home. I can't tell you how many times I've opened up my grandma's fridge to grab the butter and in the container is leftover stuffing or lasagna! I think I've eaten and helped to make every casserole known to man. I have been successful in getting my oldest child to subconsciously say "UFFDA" whenever she gets overwhelmed. HA! The cold weather helps me to feel a little closer to my family back home when we are so far away. So, the next time you see a crazy person riding a scooter/motorcycle in winter, just smile and wave to your winter-loving school secretary!
