Royals of the Month
From Our Royal Families to Yours
During winter break, I'd like to schedule DGS Family pictures on our FB page to share the Holiday sentiment of "From Our Family to Yours."
IF you would like to participate, please feel free to text or email me a family picture of your family. These don't have to be professional pictures. It could be a candid picture, ect.
I will schedule posts to be featured throughout winter break! I know the DGS families and community will love to see the pictures of our staff.
This is optional, but encouraged.
STAR Testing
TESTING REMINDERS:
· PERA changes will have evaluations tied to SGP growth between the fall and THIS
SPRING’S BENCHMARK.
· Our school goal is to ensure our SGP is 66 or above. We will include this on our communications to parents. In the future, SGP scores over 65 will constitute an excellent rating. Those scores between 35-65 will constitute a proficient rating when we compare Fall and Spring benchmarks
· You must test students within the testing window to have your testing results included in district and building level data reports.
· Kristen Hawes and KaiAnn can assist you in student make ups
· Remember, that if a student needs to retake a test, you must do that the same day. Students should NOT take multiple retakes of the test.
· Thank you for proctoring and monitoring student testing during the test taking sessions. Please review the testing instructions with students and walk around and monitor students as they test. Your presence is important. We will use these results to analyze student growth. It is important to remind students of the importance of the assessment as well.
Staff Absences
1. Absences need to be entered by 6:30am for them to be able to be put into Aesop. If you have to have an absence after that, you should email or text BOTH Lisa and myself.
2. Substitutes are in high demand. If you are not feeling well or have a sick child, we encourage you to put your absence in AS SOON AS Possible. This makes it more likely for us to get a substitute in a timely manner. If you aren't sure if you should put an absence in, feel free to text me or Lisa. The evening before is always best if possible.
30 Day Pirate Hook Challenge
You can read more at http://ditchthattextbook.com/2014/09/11/the-30-day-pirate-challenge-hooks-everywhere/. This challenge focuses on using simple, but memorable hooks from Teach Like a Pirate to engage and excite kids in the learning. Hooks can be as simple as adding an element of music to a lesson, changing the location of your lesson from your classroom to another area of the building, or adding props, costumes, or mystery to your lesson. Tweet your progress to #323learns and #TLAP
This is a great personal challenge to take on coming back from break to spice up your lessons and keep yourself and students engaged!

Bist Bytes
The BIST and Second Step timeline for 2019-2020 is HERE. I will also post updates and expectations for each week in the weekly update.
For the week of January 6
Review Gateway Behaviors with your students. This will be especially important to kick off 2020 just like you would the start of the school year in August. Ensure students know these and that you are consistent with them
DGS Data
Positive Office Referrals
You are welcome to celebrate the successes of students at any point this year. You can do so by filling out this FORM or by simply sending me an email that details they're specific success or positive behavior. They will get to ring the bell, sign the wall and have a selfie taken to be displayed outside the office. In most cases, I also call home to share the good news with their parents.

Maintenance Requests
This helps George, Nancy, and Tom Grimm track building and district requests.
You can ask verbally for a request, but also be sure to send the email. It can be as simple as "Please move desk to stage in my classroom" or "Air Conditioning is leaking."
