This month our guidance lessons with the counselor will focus on COOPERATION and Bullying Prevention. October is also National Bullying Prevention Month! Senate Bill 2050 requires students at each grade level to meet periodically for instruction on building relationships, preventing bullying and cyberbullying. During guidance lessons with the counselor students will be learning about conflict resolution, bullying prevention, and how to report bullying. Students are encouraged not to be bystanders, but upstanders when they witness bullying. Upstanders witness bullying and do something to help the victim and try to stop it. Students understand that reporting bullying is important to make sure everyone feels safe and is safe at school. Here is a graphic to help students understand what bullying is and is not:
There is a district wide event on Wednesday, Oct 20th. We will celebrate Unity Day by wearing orange as an expression of solidarity- “Together against bullying. UNITED for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion.” Remember to wear ORANGE on Oct. 20th!

Katy Virtual Academy Grades K-6 Parents/Guardians...
On Monday, October 4, the Katy ISD Board of Trustees voted to uphold the October 15th scheduled end date for Katy Virtual Academy (KVA) Grades K-6 online learning program. KVA students are scheduled to return to in-person learning on Monday, October 18.
Returning to In-Person Learning at Home Campus
Parents planning to return their KVA enrolled child(ren) to in-person learning are NOT required to withdraw or re-enroll their child(ren). Following the conclusion of the elementary nine-week grading period on Friday, October 15, the KVA administrative team will ensure all KVA students are re-enrolled at their home campus in preparation for in-person learning on Monday, October 18. Homeroom teacher information for students in grades kindergarten through fifth will be available via the Home Access Center (HAC) on Sunday, October 17 at 6:00 p.m. Schedules for sixth-grade students will also be accessible through the HAC on that same date and time. Questions regarding your child’s return to in-person learning on October 18 may be directed to the KVA administrative team at (281) 234-2060 or kva@katyisd.org.
Intermittent School to Home Learning
We understand that many of our families are experiencing health and other challenges as a result of the pandemic. As a reminder, the Intermittent School to Home learning option is available to students who elect to isolate due to any medical condition requiring an extended absence. This option is available to students for up to 20 total cumulative days. Intermittent School to Home learning allows students to access and stay current on assignments through the Katy ISD Learning Management System (Canvas).
Withdrawing from Katy ISD
Parents planning to withdraw their child(ren) from Katy ISD to attend a non-district learning option are asked to contact the KVA office at 281-234-2060 or email kva@katyisd.org, prior to Friday, October 15. Questions regarding withdrawal from Katy ISD may be directed to the KVA administrative team.
Katy ISD is excited to welcome back our 3,287 KVA Gr. K-6 students to in-person learning on October 18. Please refer to the 2021-2022 Return to School Safety Plan for updated safety protocols information. Please note, that per the COVID-19 Dashboard, active cases have been on the decline since the start of the school year, and there have been no campus or classroom closures due to the spread of COVID-19. The health and safety of our students and staff remains our utmost priority as we continue to safely support in-person learning and student programs.
Sincerely,
KVA Team
