December 21--Snow Day
Our first Snow Day is Friday, December 21. If we don't have a school closure before this date, there will be no school on this day for students and staff.
Winter Break
Our Winter Break is December 24-January 5. We will see you back at school on January 8, 2019!
Challenge Day at GJSHS
Challenge Day was an amazing event that took place last Thursday at GJSHS. We did many team building games and activities. One of the most powerful experiences of the day was an activity called "Cross the Line". Thank you to all of the adult staff and volunteers who came out to support our students!
Second Grade Scientists
Miss Cairn's second-grade class has been studying about land formations. This past week, they did an experiment to see if they could discover how canyons are made.
On her way to college!
Mia Harris was accepted to UNR last week where she wants to study Criminal Justice. Congratulations, Mia! We are so proud of you!
Jr. National Finals Rodeo
Third-grader, Bodie Kingdon, recently competed in the Jr. National Finals Rodeo. He can be seen in this video. Although he didn't place this time, we certainly know just to make it to this level is an incredible accomplishment. You can view a video of one of his rides below. Way to go, Bodie!
We Need Your Help
We receive Title I and other federal funding for our school based on the number of students who qualify for free or reduced lunch. Because of the grant PUSD received to have all of our students receive free breakfast and lunch, many families have not completed the confidential income verification form. This can be done easily through your parent portal or we have forms available in each school office. We use these funds for extra interventions for our students, including a classroom paraprofessional who works directly with students. Thank you for completing the form to help us to secure the additional funding.

Greenville Gamers, led by Coach Ferris, are going to be competing against other high school students in the Northern California eSports league. Practice and competitions are Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-5:00 p.m. in Room 109. See Mr. Ferris for more information or use the link for more information https://www.esportsfed.org/.
Staff Feature
Our staff feature this week is Mrs. Maria Johnson. Mrs. Johnson teaches first grade at IVES. Not only is she an alumni of GJSHS, but so are her husband and three children. Mrs. Johnson represents our schools on the district MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) team. She is also a member of our PBIS team at school. Mrs. Johnson has received training on teaching students how to self-regulate by using mindfulness and other social-emotional skills. We are so thankful for the expertise she brings to our staff and district.
