Egg Harbor Township High School

Week of November 10, 2019

Students of the Week

Student: Jacob Valenzuela

Nominated by: Ms. Makos

Jacob's Leadership is exhibited by his passion for art and music. He is dedicated and others admire and respect him for it!

Student: Liv Martinolich

Nominated by: Mrs. Butrus

Liv demonstrates thoughtfulness. She was willing to help me lift a heavy bucket of sand to my classroom. After carrying the heavy bucket of sand from the D-wing parking lot, as I walked to the main hallway it seemed to get really heavy. I put the bucket down to rest, and she asked if I was ok, and did not hesitate to lift the other end. Together we carried it down the hallway to my classroom. Thank you, Liv! You assistance was very much appreciated!

"Chalk Talk" with Mr. Martirone

Find out what’s happening in World Cultures this week and see how some of our freshman are learning how to analyze Medieval Philosophy with a "Chalk Talk" #EHTPride

EHTHS French Student Highlighted on National Blog

So happy to share with you the link to Alyssa’s “Ask Away” interview on her language-learning experiences, published today on the Lead with Languages campaign blog. The post is currently featured on our homepage and can also be accessed directly at this link: We’ll be sharing on social media later today as well @LeadWLanguages. : )

Many thanks again for all of your help making this happen, and to Alyssa for sharing her story with us! I love her positive energy, and I’m sure she will motivate and encourage many young people to try something new (and then to stick with it!).

Keep me posted as you have more stories to share. Would gladly feature another student (or an alum using languages in her career!) in the future.

All best,

Erin M. Whelchel

Environmental Students Go On The Road to ACUA

The Environmental Science classes from the high school visited the Atlantic County Utilities Authority on November 13th and November 14th. They first toured the landfill and witnessed a new wall being built to section off the landfill. They then visited the recycling center and witnessed in action how the center works as well as what can and cannot be recycled. They also visited the compost site which demonstrated why leaves and landscaping materials should not be put in trash. They also witnessed the steam coming off of the compost piles showing how energy/heat is lost during the decomposition process. They then went to wastewater treatment facility located in Atlantic City where they learned how we have improved our waterways since the building of the waste water treatment facility as well as the basins where the wastewater is treated. They also saw up close the wind turbines. This is related to community pride because students also signed up for America Recycles Day which is being held at the ACUA on November 16th as volunteers. One student might even be the Supercan!
