We had a wonderful (and busy) November with Book Fair, STEM Safari, Immigration Station, and more! We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did! Makerspace Moments

We have a MAKERSPACE in the Learning Commons! A Makerspace is an area where students and teachers can go to create, explore, and learn. Each month, our Makerspace is going to have a Spotlight Activity that students can explore during Makerspace Moments. We will continue SEWING during the month of December!


Makerspace Moments are Tuesdays and Thursdays - 7:30am - 8am. Each classroom teacher has 3 passes. Please let us know if you have any questions!

Hour of Code

December 7 - 13 is Hour of Code Week! Learn more at this link: http://code.org/


We are excited about celebrating Computer Programming this week! Students from the Lexington Technology Center will be in the Learning Commons on Wednesday, December 9 to show off some cool coding/Computer Programming projects/equipment they have learned about...please bring your students by to check them out! Time TBA!


In addition to the visit from LTC students, the Learning Commons Team will be available to do Hour of Code Lessons with your students on Tuesday, December 8 and Wednesday, December 9. We will talk about Computer Programming and coding and explore a couple of coding apps. Each lesson will take about an hour. Please let us know if you would like to sign up for a time!


You can also participate in the Hour of Code in your own classroom using iPads or in the computer lab, too!

Read with the Gamecocks!

We will once again be participating in the Read with the Gamecocks program! Students will write down the number of pages they read between January 11 - January 22. Students who participate in the program will receive tickets to the following games:

Women's Basketball Thursday, February 18

Men's Basketball Saturday, February 20

Lion Cub Storytime

Each month, we host a story time for little friends who are not yet old enough to attend NPES. Here are this year's Lion Cub Story Time dates (they all start at 9am):

Looking for Mrs. Byrd Fort, Mrs. Sheely, Mrs. Gobbi or Ms. Burkett?

Mrs. Byrd Fort is at NPES 7am - 11:30am every day.

Mrs. Sheely is at NPES 11am - 3pm every day.

Mrs. Gobbi is at NPES 7:30am - 3pm every day (lunch at 11am).

Ms. Burkett is at NPES 7:30am - 3pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, every other Friday.

About Us

The Vision and Mission of the New Providence Elementary School Learning Commons is to ensure that students and teachers are effective users of ideas and information in regards to both print and digital resources. We strive to provide library materials and services appropriate to the curriculum of the school and to provide library materials and services that meet the information and recreational needs of the learning community and that will encourage and support Common Core State Standards as well as the 4 C's - Critical Thinking, Collaboration, Creativity, and Communication. We provide opportunities for collaboration between the Learning Commons Team (Teacher Librarians, Library Assistant, Technology Integration Specialist) and the Classroom Teacher to integrate information literacy, digital literacy, book love and technology into instruction.
