Pre-K
This month in Pre-K we’ll be focusing on Stories and Rhymes, we will be looking at many stories. Children love rhymes, especially silly ones. They are drawn to the sounds of words that are playful and melodious. This month they will be exposed to many different kinds of rhymes representing a variety of cultures. They will be encouraged to play with rhymes as they practice listening for words that sound similar but are not the same. Along with exploring stories that have withstood the test of time from generation to generation. Children will also explore a variety of stories in song form, some filled with exaggerations, and some that teaches them morals and lessons. We look forward to starting this month.
Kindergarten
In Language Arts, we will continue to learn about identifying and producing rhymes, segmenting words, identifying initial and final sounds in words. We will also be using text evidence to make inferences, predictions, and connections to the text.
In Math, we will continue learning how to compare, compose (add) and decompose a number up to 20 and counting to 50.
We will learn about shapes. We will recognize, describe and name basic solid shapes.
In Science, we will using our senses to explore different forms of energy such as light, thermal, and sound. We will learn about magnets and explore their interactions with various materials. We will use positional words such as above, below, behind, in front of, and beside to describe the location of an object in relation to another. We will observe and describe the ways the objects can move such as in a straight line, zigzag, up and down, back and forth, round and round, and fast and slow. In addition, for Social Studies we will learn about land forms, bodies of water, weather, and seasons and about our globe.
Please read to your child daily for at least 15 minutes and help your child with the homework.
