The Concession Stand takes a village…so thank you to all my fellow Village People…Richard Gray, Jenny Peters, Heather Abraham, Eva Hurtado, Sherrie DeMarea, Bill Decker (Grill Master), Peggy Verhagen, The Robinsons, The Thomas-Benkes, The Leemanns, The Menners, Elizabeth Parker, Michelle Neely, Mary Hayes, Jason Meriwether, Stacy Breckenridge, Ming Chen, The Schultzs, Angie Marty, The Pilons, Pam Zoellner, Jessica Lodes, and Shayla Beiermann (Our Sandwich Seller Extraordinaire!) Chris Mohler even came out of retirement to help out! Thank you everyone!

Mozingo Percussion Competition Recap
Hats off to the Pit and the Battery for their outstanding job on 8/26 during the Mozingo Percussion Competition. The marchers earned a 1st place in our division with a score of 81.5. This score was also the best score of all schools, larger and smaller, that were competing that day. Plus, both the Pit and the Tenor line earned a 1st place award! It was an awesome recognition of the hard work and talent this group brings to the field!

Uniform Update
Thanks to all the everyone for getting their kiddos to band early, or stay after, so that we could get them all fitted. We appreciate your help!! The orders you put in for Uniform components (shoes, polos, hoodies, etc.) should be coming home this week. If you don't see them...make sure to ask! With that, please make sure that you label every item. When we have all those kiddos wearing the same gloves, shoes, shirts, etc, they all begin to look alike.
Friday (9/1) Marchers will be in uniform. Please make sure you have all items needed. See list if any questions.
- moisture wicking white shirt
- long black socks
- marching shoes
- gloves
- percussion bands
- deodorant
- hair supplies, if needed
- Students must wear a white moisture wicking t-shirt under their uniform.
- If you wish to wear shorts under your uniform (encouraged), they must be athletic shorts that are not loose or baggy.
- It is your responsibility to get your hair in a pony or bun on TOP of your head before getting dressed. Please be prepared!
- As always, there is no eating or drinking in uniform. Water ONLY.
- When hanging uniforms up…it is YOUR responsibility to make sure that they are hung correctly. Fold bibs on the crease, and hang correctly. Jackets get hung with the hanger curving forward.
Thank you!
The Uniform Team

F 9.1 Game: 4:30 - 11:00 pm Football Game - see below
HOME FOOTBALL GAME GUIDELINES
The schedule and expectations for a home football game are outlined below. SOME HAVE CHANGED.
The Spirit of ‘76 performs at all home football games, which usually occur on Friday nights in August, September, and October. There are normally four or five home games each year.
On game day, the schedule below is followed. Special circumstances may require a change of schedule, which will be announced in advance.
- 4:30 pm Rehearsal on the practice field (rehearsal clothes)
- 5:45 pm Rehearsal ends, eat a snack or “brown bag” dinner; then change into full uniform, unless otherwise instructed
- 6:20 pm Parade block; march to the stadium, and set the horn arc on the field
- 6:45 pm Perform the Star Spangled Banner
- 6:50 pm Move into the stands for the start of the game
REMINDERS:
- Remain in the stands with the band throughout the game.
- Play only on your own instrument, and only when instructed to do so by Mr. Barnes, Mrs. Kinworthy, or the Drum Major. Pay close attention to the directors. You may need to play on very short notice!
- YOU MAY NOT EAT WHILE IN UNIFORM. Eat before the game or in the band room afterwards. Food is not allowed in the band area of the stands. Water will be provided.
- Keep all comments and actions positive when in uniform. Cheer for South High, and represent our school well. Avoid negative comments directed toward others, especially those from the opposing school.
- Sit in the row assigned to your section.
- Only band members are allowed in the band section. Please have your friends sit in the section next to the band.
During the second quarter we leave the stands to warm up for the halftime show.
At halftime, we perform the competition show.
During the third quarter the band members will be allowed to take a short break. They may use the opportunity to rest in the band room and use the restroom.
All band members must be back in the stands by the beginning of the 4th quarter.
After the game, the band performs several pep songs as the crowd clears out of the stadium. Don’t expect to be done before 10:30/11:00 pm.
When dismissed from the stands, band members are expected to:
- Return to the band room without playing.
- Carefully put instruments away in the correct case and storage cabinet.
- Change out of uniform, and hang up uniform neatly.
- Return uniform and garment bag to the appropriate clothing rack.
- Help clean any messy areas of the music area.
- NEW FOR 2017: STUDENTS WILL BE DISMISSED TOGETHER ONCE ALL INSTRUMENTS, UNIFORMS AND EQUIPMENT ARE PUT AWAY, AND MUSIC AREAS ARE CLEANED.
Band Parent Help Needed - Truck Loaders, Prop Help and Board Opportunities
Just a shout out to all the parents that will invest time to help this upcoming year - we can always use the extra pairs of hands. There’s a number of specific ways in which you can help:
- Saturday Competitions. These start September 16. Generally, help will be needed loading the trucks in the morning before we leave for the competition, unloading once we get there, and then loading it back up at the end of the day (which is usually in the evening). The last big piece is then unloading back at the school, usually around 10pm. And if that’s not enough, truck drivers need to take the trucks back to Budget, and need a ride back to school. As you can imagine, the truck drivers and chaperones are pretty bushed at the end of the competition days. Any additional help is always appreciated!! Keep an eye on Spirit Notes for the weekend schedule, or sign up to drive the truck or chaperone on the website links within these Notes. If you have questions find or text Dave Andrzejewski at 314-308-0698, or Kurt Leeman at 314-604-4577.
- Wednesdays Evenings. Come enjoy the band during their evening practice. Usually when they end around 830pm it’s nice to have a couple of parents around to simply load the props and any equipment back into the stadium storage areas. If you can make it and can pick something up, it’s always great to have extra help. Easy stuff, promise to have you home by 9.
- Board Members needed for next year. Sounds pretty scary but it really isn’t. (It will be scary if we cannot get these positions filled.) Our two VPs and Construction/Maintenance positions will be retiring at the end of the year. We have approached a couple of people already, but definitely need 2 to 3 people to confirm they will assume these positions for the next year. If you are interested, contact Dave or Kurt for VP, and Ray Waidmann for Construction/Maintenance. Ray can be reached at 636-346-5756. We hope to get commitment soon so you can “shadow” us during the current year.
Do you love all the FUN RAISING, but wonder how to FUNDRAISE?!
The Band Boosters Board are continually working to keep fees as low as possible while providing opportunities for students/families to earn money directly into their student band accounts. We schedule whole band fundraising programs throughout the year such as Craft Fair, Mattress Sale, and Dinner with the Band to offset annual budget expenses. Additionally, we set up fundraising events for the students to earn as much money as they can toward their own personal band fee.
Two of the three planned major individual fundraising opportunities are available in Sept! (the other individual fundraising event will be winter/spring). Please read below for details!
Available NOW: Cardinals Garage Volunteer Individual Account Fundraiser:
Cardinals Garage Parking Fundraiser provides the opportunity for a total of 20 students and their family members (all must be 15 or older) to earn $40 each toward the student band account for working as a cashier or directing traffic at one of 3 downtown parking structures for Cardinal’s games. This fundraising opportunity is available on Sept 12th and on Sept 26th from 4:00pm to 1 hour after the game ends. (game time is 7:15pm both nights). Workers must be present for their entire shift in order to receive the credit to their student account. There is a bonus of $120 per game ($6 per worker) if the whole group arrives on time (ie. 4pm for a 7:15pm game), and in the right numbers (6 at Stadium East, 8 at Stadium West, and 6 at Kiener Plaza)
Details:
- Stadium East Garage, 200 S. Broadway : 6 workers (2 may leave approx. 1 hr. after game starts)
- Kiener Plaza Garage, 604 Pine St.: 6 workers (2 may leave approx. 1 hr. after game starts)
- Stadium West Garage, 100 S. 9th St.: 8 workers (3 may leave approx. 1 hr. after game starts)
Please sign up ASAP for this opportunity – it is first come, first served!

Whole Band Fundraiser: Schnucks eScrip Program
The more you shop, the more Parkway South Band can earn!
With the Schnucks eScrip Program, for every dollar you spend, Schnucks will contribute 1-3% of your purchase amount to Parkway South Band Boosters. This program costs you NOTHING and only requires you to hand your Schnucks eScrip card to the cashier when you check out. This is an easy way for you to support the band as a whole!
How do you get started:
- If you already have an eScrip card, go to www.escrip.com/schnucks and log in to your account. Go to “My Organizations” and make sure you have selected “Parkway South Band Boosters”. It’s that easy!!
- If you do not have an eScrip card, we will have some available in the band room for pick up next week. Your child can bring one home, or, just request one at your local Schnucks. Then:
- Go to www.escrip.com/schnucks
- Click “register your card by signing up with eScrip”.
- Enter zip, Parkway South Band Boosters, create a profile, and register the card.
- Start buying groceries!
Please participate in this program if you can. It is easy to set up and easy to participate – just pull out your eScrip card when you reach for payment when you buy groceries. We should take as much advantage of this “free money” as we can to help offset band costs!
For questions, please contact sue.haddrill@purina.nestle.com
COMING SOON! TJ’s Pizza Individual Student Account Fundraiser!
A very popular opportunity to earn money directly into your student band account! TJ’s offers numerous types of pizza and several dessert type items for your student to sell to friends, neighbors or family. On Sept 6th, the kids will receive kick-off materials and tastes of a few products and can begin selling. No matter how many items your customers order, past band experience has shown that they are guaranteed to want more as soon as they are finished eating what they have!
The fundraiser will last a little over a month with orders due Sept 19th. The products will be delivered on Thursday, Oct 12th. It is delivered frozen and must be picked up promptly. More details to come on pick up logistics as we get closer.
Mark your calendars for this lucrative fundraiser and remember that money earned into the student band accounts this year can roll into next year to help pay for the “big trip” the band takes every other year!
For questions, please contact sue.haddrill@purina.nestle.com.

Booster Blurb
Updates from the Band Boosters
Thanks to all Boosters who helped make a great weekend! Spirit Night, the home Football Game, Concession Stand Duty, and the Mozingo Drumline Competition were outstanding successes because the parent Boosters could let the band and directors focus on the music and performances! Special Thanks to Becky Craig for her work Friday Night at the Spirit Night booth and concession stand.
Also, thank you Mozingo chaperones and truck loaders. Reminder – We’ll take all the help we can, but to be recognized as an official band chaperone you must sign up at SignUp.cpm and be cleared through the School District. This is why the chaperone forms were in the band packets. Official chaperones receive entry to the competition! Sign up now for future chaperone opportunities.
Finally, help us keep the Band Boosters financial reports up to date. If you’re holding any receipts for band purchases (like from band camp!); these can be turned in to the black band mailbox in the band room. Place receipts in a sealed envelope marked “Attn: Tim Gunn”. We’ll make the appropriate reimbursements or credits to your account.
