American Education During The 1980s
By: Devin McGuire
What generally happened?
In the 1980s, most changes involving education had to do with the curriculum. For example, Louisiana tried many times to pass an act to incorporate the teaching of creationism into schools that also taught evolution. Another example is a report from the National Commission on Excellence in Education, which called for the study of computer science to be a requirement in the school curriculum.
Back-to-Basics Movement
The back-to-basics movement involved creating a standardized curriculum and test for all schools to ensure that all children understood basic math, reading, and science.
