Smallpox; A Deadly Disease
Smallpox is a deadly disease that causes rashes and bumps, which led to permanent scarring. It causes pain within the body. It is a contagious virus which was often deadly. This disease was brought into the world by the Europeans. Smallpox killed off almost ninety percent of the native population.
Vaccine for Smallpox?
There was a vaccine for smallpox which was made from a virus called vaccinia; related to smallpox but can't cause the disease, smallpox.
Trade within the Columbian Exchange
Smallpox was spread within the Columbian Exchange. There were crops, livestock, grains, and different diseases that were being traded all over the world.
Transmitting Smallpox
In order to get small pox, there had have to have been face to face contact. Also by direct contact with infected bodily fluids or contaminated objects.
Effects of the Disease
Smallpox
Smallpox killed too many to count. There was a huge population decrease where the smallpox outbreak was introduced. Because of how many the disease killed, no one wanted to take the blame for the spread. As it came into the New World, no one was ready to handle such a disease, that it took more than half the population.
