7th Grade ACTS Newsletter

April 11-15, 2016

Science - Mrs. Sexton

We have completed coverage of all science standards. We will spend the next month review various information that has been taught this year. There will be a variety of activities to help students with recall. The Science PASS test is scheduled for Wednesday, May 11th. We will also be taking our final Science MAP test the following week. Students in all of my class will have an end of year test on Study Island. Please be sure your child has completed all of the assignments on the Study Island Retire 2016 list by April 15th.

Please join us Monday, April 11th for our Spring Choral Concert at 6:00. Cost is $5 per person.

Math - Mr. Smith

Students are learning about probability (chapter 16) by conducting various experiments in class. In parallel we are reviewing for SC READY by reviewing content of previous lessons via show me videos. Students will have a quiz on Friday on directly proportional relationships. Students may use their video notes.

Students should expect a chapter 16 test on probability next Friday, April 15th.

Dance - Mrs. Brewington

7th dance focus: End of Year showcase dance begins as we "Hold out for a Hero" On Fridays we will learn song/dance for ARTS SMASH opening/closing number. Muscles and Bones test is April 7th. Dance Injuries Information book was assigned March 23rd. Book due April 22nd.

Drama - Mrs. Keenan

7th Grade Drama Focus students are rehearsing for our Spring Production "The Greek Mythology Olympiaganza!" We will have a mandatory after school rehearsal on Wednesday, April 20 from 3:00 - 5:00 pm. We are performing Thursday, April 21 at 8:30 am for our fellow ACTS students, and at 6:00 pm for the public. Students will get information about costume pieces to bring from home very soon.

7th Grade Drama Rotation students just completed writing and performing an original monologue piece. We will reflect on these performances and then move into scene work where we will focus on blocking and acting in a performance setting.

Social Studies & ELA - Mrs. Owensby

7th Grade SS

Students will continue a study of the Cold War Era. They will be conducting research and forming a timeline of events.

7th Grade ELA

Students will continue to develop skills in editing, writing and reading while preparing for the state test. We will conclude our historical fiction book clubs and create a presentation.

Strings - Ms. Hrivnak

7th focus will be working on music for our upcoming concert and for ArtSmash. Reminder to parents and students that there is a mandatory dress rehearsal on Monday, April 25th from 3-5pm. The concert is on Tuesday, April 26th at 6pm with a call time of 5pm for students. Admission is $5. Students have a video/skit project due on Wednesday, April 20th. The rubrics are on Google Classroom. Students are expected to collaborate on this both in class and outside of class.

Art - Mr. Winchester

7th Grade Art Focus will begin work on painting Charleston Gates with watercolor while using pen to create the detail of the gates.

Social Studies - Mrs. Babb

This week we will complete our study of the Cold War and test on Thursday. Students have added to our understanding of this era by sharing visuals, political cartoons, and videos covering major events during this era.

They are also spending time each day preparing for PASS. They are completing a packet that covers all essential standards. In addition, they will be assigned specific review questions using USA TestPrep.

Science - Mrs. Griffin

The students will complete the section on the circulatory system and have the test on Thursday the 14th. The next two units of study will be the muscular and skeletal systems. They will have graded assignments to check for understanding along with the test this week. Please remember to check '' 7 Assignments" on my webpage.

Please encourage your child to complete the assigned Study Island assignments.
