Here's What's on Top at Buena Vista - January 25, 2023
Note from the Principal
Greetings Buena Vista Parents,
Here is what is happening at Buena Vista Elementary!
Kindness Matters Campaign
We have launched our Kindness Matters Campaign. We have been making kindness chains and staff has been recognizing opportunities to celebrate kindness when it happens throughout the week. Check out the photo of Mrs. Ong's class being kind to our Earth and cleaning up our campus. Al gloved up and ready to go! It looked great this afternoon, great work 3rd grade. If you happen to be on campus this week check out the fabulous words of wisdom and affirmation that Mrs. Thompson''s first grade class decorated doors with...what joy their excitement to spread kindness brings. (Bee Kind!)
Student Learning
I was able to visit Mrs. Stessel's class where her first graders were practicing placing missing numbers in a a number line and looking for patterns and other connections they know about in math. Our first graders are working with large numbers to 100 and looking for patterns by counting by 5s, 10s and even 25s. What big thinking they are doing!
I also was able to spend time in Mr. Haller's life skills class. Students are working hard to learn best ways of greeting one another each day, learning about the days of the week, and months of the year. They are even learning how to share and talk about the weather. I see so much learning and growing each visit I take into Room 33.
Positive Parenting Program
“Raising children and youth to become healthy, confident, capable individuals is the most important and rewarding job parents and caregivers have, but sometimes it’s also the hardest job. That’s why proven strategies and support from programs such as the Triple P – Positive Parenting Program are here to help,” Nicole Young.
January is Positive Parenting Awareness Month. C.O.P.E. offers wonderful resources to support parents, including this monthly newsletter. This month’s column is focused on building your child’s emotional resiliency. Learn more about C.O.P.E. and what is offered here.
It's a Great Day to be a Bulldog!

Join us for Multicultural Night at BV!
February 22, 2023 –6-8 pm Multicultural night returns to Buena Vista Elementary. Join together and let’s share our food, watch a Tahitian dance performance and celebrate with our kids in a cultural Fashion Show. There will be little passports for our kids to get stamped which will to help them engage with other families, to learn about their food, customs, and traditions.
Our goal is to offer food stations from 6 different continents and have the kids (and adults) go around, try the food and ask questions. Once they learn about a dish or country, they will get their passport stamped. At the end of the evening the kids with the majority of stamps will earn a reward.
There will also be a fashion show for the kids to show off and share information about their traditional garments.
Please complete this google form by February 10th if you plan to attend Multicultural night and bring a dish or dessert so we may prepare for a fun and festive evening.
Schedule for the evening:
5:45pm: Bring dishes
6:00-6:45pm: Meet families, enjoy food, and get passports stamped
6:45-7:15pm: Performance
7:20pm: Fashion show (If you'd like to participate, please wear clothing representing your culture)

Get ready to turn up the heat for our school! To fulfill our $1.4 million pledge to our districts, WCEF is reaching out to all families with a goal to raise an additional $100,000 from February 6-10. Help us show gratitude for our TK-5 Art, Music and Science Lab programs; Electives at WCI and Tice; and more classes and the Wellness Center at top-ranked Las Lomas by donating during Turn UP The Heat. As a bonus, the TK-8 school with the most participation increase wins a popsicle party!
On February 6, your student will bring home a red envelope. Fill the envelope with a donation and return to school. Now is the time to join the movement and help us ignite a brighter future for all.
Every gift, in any amount, makes a difference for your child and every student. Donate today! Not sure if you have donated? Email database@wcefk12.org.
