Happy Thanksgiving
The first part of the 2021-2022 school year has gone by quickly. We are just about finished with the first trimester and are charging ahead.
We are thankful for our students who come to school every day ready to learn – they give us all a daily reminder of what is important and why we are here. We are thankful for the support of the families in creating an outstanding partnership for our students. We are thankful for the teachers, para-educators, nurses, office staff, counselors, kitchen staff, support staff, therapists and administrators who really care about the students and have their best interests at heart.
I would like to wish all of you and your families a happy, healthy and relaxing Thanksgiving holiday!
Warm regards,
Mrs. Holman
Moving update
Our time at our temporary school is growing short - yay!! The district will be moving us into the new Brookdale starting bright and early, Saturday, Dec. 18. The next few weeks are going to be extra busy as we prepare for the move. On Tuesday, Nov. 23 there will be an informational parent meeting from 5:30-7:00. This is an opportunity for families to hear about the move and how they can support the changes. We will make sure the Power Point is available for all families after the meeting. See below for an update on the progress.
Letter below has lots of important information regarding the move to our new building.
WE APPRECIATE OUR CUSTODIANS!
To say, we would be a mess without them, is an understatement! Teresa Byrd and Christopher Leach take such good care of students, staff and our building. They work tirelessly to make sure that our school environment is clean and safe. This year, they have the added job of assuring that everything is packed and ready for our move and then will have to establish new routines at our beautiful new building. Please join us as we honor Mrs. Byrd & Mr. Leach November 29 - December 3.

PICTURE RETAKE DAY ~ November 30
If you ordered a picture packet they will be coming home with students on Monday, November 22. If your child missed our picture day and you would like them to get their picture taken on re-take day - please remember to send in picture money, if you would like to purchase a picture packet. If you would like your child to get re-takes done, please make sure the complete original packet is sent to school that day. No re-takes can be taken without the complete original packet. Our online students and young siblings of our Brookdale students can also have their pictures taken on re-take day between 10:00 – 11:00. Packet ordering envelopes are available in our school office. Packets purchased on retake day will be returned before Winter Break.
- Please do not have your children wear green.
- All portraits are printed on a prepayment system. Online ordering is available where credit cards will be accepted. Please go to www.qualityschoolportraits.com to order portraits online. You must type in the school code of BR008 and order by 9pm prior to photo day.
Report Cards
Report Cards – It’s hard to believe that we are already getting to the end of our first trimester. Next Wednesday, December 1 we will dismiss students at 12:35 so that teachers can work on student report cards. Scores will reflect students’ progress toward end of the year grade level standards. If a student receives a / or X in a standard it means that the teacher doesn’t have enough information to give a score (/) or has not introduced the standard yet (X). Report cards will be going home on Friday, December 10. Please take time to review your child’s report card with them and don’t hesitate to contact the teacher if you have any questions.
LOST AND FOUND
Our lost and found is overflowing. Please have your child check for any missing items. A reminder that many coats look the same. It is very important to write your child’s name inside their coats. All unclaimed clothing will be given to a charity during Winter Break.
IMPORTANT SCHOOL REMINDERS
STUDENT EARLY DISMISSAL – If your child has an appointment and is leaving before the end of the school day, please make sure you send a note that morning letting the teacher and the office know. Also, please allow enough time for pick up. To preserve precious class time, we do not call students to the office until you have checked them out in person (remember your ID).
SCHEDULE CHANGES - The end of the day at Brookdale is very hectic. If you forgot to send a note in the morning (which is preferred) and need to call the school with a change to your child’s schedule, please do so before 3:15 p.m. After 3:15 the office is busy assisting students and parents and will not be able to answer your call or get a message to a student before they leave for the day. All end of the day schedule changes must be made through the office, not with the classroom teacher. Thank you!
UPDATE CONTACT INFORMATION - If any of your information has changed (address, contact info., email address, etc.) please contact the office right away. This year more than ever, it will be important to have the most current information. Also, let us know what your preferred method of contact is - phone, email, text. You can reach the office at 253.298.3100.
