Notes from the Teacher
Snacks
We like to offer a snack in the morning to help fuel our brains! If you are able to donate to our snacks, it would be much appreciated. Healthy snacks like crackers, string cheese, animal crackers, or fruit snacks are always appreciated!
Toys
Many students have been bringing toys or pokemon cards to school. Please refrain from letting these items come to school. If I collect these items from your child, I will return it to them at the end of the school day. If it becomes a consistent problem, I will keep the toys for a week. Thank you for your support.
National Boards
This school year, I will be completeing my national boards. I will be using some student work without names or identifying factors in my portfolio. Be on the look out next week for a permission slip. You may choose to consent or not, it is completely up to you!
We are learning...
- Know final –e and vowel team conventions for representing long vowel sounds
- Describe the connection between individuals, events, ideas or information in a text.
- Identify similarities and differences between texts on the same topics
We are working on Compare and Contrast. When you compare, you tell how things are alike. When you contrast, you tell how things are different/ We will use a venn diagram to compare and contrast.
Math
- Understand that the two digits of a two-digit number represent amounts of tens and ones.
- Understand that 10 can be thought of as a bundle of ten ones, called a "ten"
In unit 4, the students take the important step of viewing a group of tens as a "ten". They learn to view the numbers 11-19 as one ten and some ones.
Writing
- Write narratives in which students recount two or more sequenced events, include some details about what happened, and provide a sense of closure
We continue to focus on how to write an introduction to a personal narrative. A first grade introduction should include who/what/when/where. We will also be adding details to our topic sentences.
Example: This weekend my family and I went to Crossroads to eat dinner. First, we sat down at a big table. Next, we ordered and I got macaroni and cheese. Last, our food arrived and we ate.
