Principals Message:
Thank you to everyone who cheered on and supported our Centennial Sports teams as they started our Fall sports last week. It was a great start, so come out and cheer on our Eagles.
We have several important dates coming up this week:
Aug. 22nd - Fall Sports Parent Night @ CHS Autortiam @ 6:30 PM
Aug. 23rd - CHS Summer School Follow-up Testing Day 9 AM-2 PM
Aug. 23rd - Food for Families Distribution @ 4 PM
Aug. 24th - Freshman Orientation Day @ 8:10 AM to 10:10 AM - We would like to invite all incoming 9th-grade students to attend CHS Freshman Orientation.
Change to CHS Cellphone Procedures: It is our Centennial High School Mission that each of our students will demonstrate high academic standards in an equitable, supportive school culture and graduate college career-ready. So, we are committed to our students learning in a safe and supportive environment by supporting our students to be fully engaged in learning and keeping our halls and public spaces device-free during class time. Cell phones and other electronic devices distract from our mission and have also led to students feeling unsafe, cyber-bullying, student tardiness, off-task behavior, and peer conflict. So, for the 2023-2024 school year, the use of cellphones, headphones/wireless headphones, and other personal devices is not allowed in classrooms, restrooms, and school offices during class time/Instructional time unless otherwise documented in a student support plan for this coming school year. This policy includes bathroom breaks during instructional time. Students are permitted to use cell phones, headphones, and personal devices during the following times:
Before school, during lunch, and after school
During after-school activities/sports (with permission)
At evening or weekend activities
Also, make sure you have reviewed the CHS Student Handbook 2023-2024 for any questions.
Remember, "Once an Eagle, Always an Eagle" at CHS!

CHS Counselor's Corner:
CHS Schedule Change Request for T1 - We hope you're excited to start the 23-24 school year! As you may remember from last spring, there were several opportunities to choose and then edit your classes for this year. We wish to begin this school year with a focus on being settled in classes and learning on Day One, and we are only allowing very necessary schedule changes and only BEFORE school starts. If you do believe you have a necessary request, you must fill out this form CHS Schedule Change Request Form 2023-2024
Counselors will only consider requests that are submitted this way (No emails, StudentVue messages, or phone calls).
Your request should be made on this form by August 25th. No schedule change requests that involve Trimester One classes will be allowed after August 25th.
I hope you have a relaxing last month of summer.
CHS Care and Connection Week is the first week of school: We are at the start of another school year. For CHS students, families, and school staff, this may bring about feelings of excitement, opportunity, anticipation, uncertainty, and nervousness. That nervousness is normal.
The Oregon Department of Education is asking every school/school district to welcome its staff and students back with Care and Connection Week. This means devoting the first weeks of the school year to building relationships and community and creating welcoming spaces for everyone.
You can visit the ODE Mental Health and Well-Being - Care and Connection Resource Page for additional resources and information.
Street Roots Rose City Resource Guide: Street Roots Rose City Resource Guide. This guide has resources for food, clothing, housing, medical, care and safety, work, legal services, and more. This guide is the most comprehensive, updated list of services for people experiencing homelessness and poverty in Multnomah, Washington, and Clackamas counties.

CHS Health and Safety Measures: We will continue to practice layered mitigation measures such as regular hand washing, airflow and ventilation, cleaning and disinfecting, and asking students and staff to stay home if ill. Remember, the best protection against COVID-19 is to get vaccinated and stay up-to-date by getting boosted. For more information on how to get a free vaccine, visit: https://www.multco.us/novel-coronavirus-covid-19/upcoming-covid-19-vaccination-clinics.
Thank you for doing your part to help keep students, staff, families, and the community healthy.
