News From The Hoop
The Lady Roos came out reenergized in the 3rd quarter last Tuesday night to go from down 3 at half to up 13, and maintained that edge all the through the fourth quarter to take the win over Abilene High 54-42. Anna Jefferson-Polk was her dominant self again scoring 20, but Gabbie “big nasty” Huggins came to life in the second half to score 10 of her 12, and Kara “Plano mall” Rothrock had 11, and Syd “the squid” Steffler added 9. Emily “mean machine” Porter stepped up to the plate and hit a big bucket when WHS needed it to finish with a deuce.
The Lady Roos move to 3-2 in district tied with Haltom for 3rd.
In the immortal words of Harry Caray, “holy cow!” Last Friday, the Lady Roos jumped on Keller early in the first quarter, but Keller tied it up at the half 15-15. But in the 3rd “AJP” (Anna Jefferson-Polk) had enough and took the reigns and put the Lady Roos up 7, then in the 4th the Lady Indians cut it to 2 but Syd "the squid" Steffler, Gabbie "big nasty" Huggins and Kara "Plano Mall" Rothrock hit clutch free throws to pull away and seal the win 41-34. That ended Keller’s undefeated streak in district 3-AAAAAA as they were 12-0 last season and were 5-0 this year.
The Lady Roos have 3 straight home games starting Tuesday night vs Haltom, then Central on Friday (middle school night), and then Fossil Ridge the following Tuesday. Currently, 3rd 1 game back of first place at 4-2. Timber Creek is tied for first with Keller at the halfway mark.
Boo-yah! Keep it up, Lady Roos!

Scholarship Opportunities
What is the FAFSA?
FAFSA is the online application that all students must use to apply for federal financial aid as well as some scholarships. FAFSA is administered through the U.S. Department of Education. Submitting the FAFSA early is the key to getting a good financial aid award. You will need to complete the FAFSA each year you are in college. Go to fafsa.ed.gov.
What information is required to fill out the FAFSA?
Students will need to provide information about their parent’s income. Students should fill out the FAFSA after January 1 of their senior year using an estimate regarding the income information. After their parents have actual figures from their 2016 income tax return, students will need to fill out a revised FAFSA using exact amounts. If the student’s parents are divorced, the student should use the financial information for the parent they live with.
Does the student need to fill out a FAFSA for each school they apply to?
No, fill out one FAFSA and the information will be sent to each college you list that you are applying to. If you want to add additional colleges later, you can fill out a revised FAFSA and list additional schools.
W. Price Jr. Memorial Scholarship: Seven $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to Texas seniors planning to attend a two-year or four-year college or a culinary college. Students must be a resident of Texas but can attend an out-of-state school and must be enrolling in a degreed foodservice or hospitality program. Students will need to enclose a transcript, letters of recommendation, and a 500-word essay with their completed application. The essay topic is on the student’s philosophy of the food service industry and how the scholarship will help them with their education and career choices. Applications are available in the Counseling Center. The application deadline is February 15, 2018.
