Notes from the Principal's Office
This week seemed to fly by very quickly. We all did our best to remain cool despite the extremely hot, humid days. We'll be right back to normal fall temperatures at the start of next week. We're looking forward to more comfortable temperatures for learning.
This week while teachers and staff continued to build relationships, they have started to shift gears and begin more formal classroom instruction. In addition, teachers and interventionists have begun the the process of assessing students. We use this information to gage summer regression and to plan instruction and interventions. While these assessments take some time away from instruction the information we gather is extremely important to work we do here at school.
Mark your calendars. Starting in the month of October we will be hosting a Community Coffee here at the school from 9:00-10:00 in the school library. Each month we will have a different topic of focus. In October, we will be discussing our recent building and maintenance projects and offering a tour of the building. We look forward to sharing all the great things happening here at Newbury and answering questions that people have. Our first Community Coffee is Wednesday October 18th.
We continue to be in desperate need of substitutes. If you or someone you know may be interested please contact the main office and we'll get you started.
Wishing You Well,
~Loretta

Positivity Project Focus September 11th-15th: Teamwork
Dear Families,
This week our school community will be focusing on the character strength of Teamwork. Teamwork means you work well as a member of a group or team. You are loyal, reliable, and dedicated to helping your team achieve its goals.
Teamwork is the ability and willingness to place overall group success as a higher priority than individual achievement. Those who demonstrate strengths in teamwork often work to help all group members find success. These individuals are willing to commit time and resources in order to further group goals and help toward the greater good.
For individuals, teamwork often means deferring or delaying individual accomplishments in order to ensure that the group maintains a high level of success. Their commitment to the larger group effort makes them good teammates. The positive feelings associated with being part of a larger whole -- can be highly beneficial and combat selfishness and egotism.
To practice and encourage the character strength of teamwork with your child, please visit the Positivity Project’s P2 for Families (password: P2), where together you will watch a video, read a quote, and talk about the answers to three questions.
Have a wonderful week!
What is an example of teamwork in your life? Watch this video with your child to discuss teamwork.
