Invitational Robotics Tournament
More than 300 students from West Texas Area 18 schools participated in the 7th Annual ECISD Invitational Robotics Tournament hosted by the Education Foundation, Bonham Middle School, and the University of Texas of the Permian Basin.
Students build robots and use technology to program them to perform specific tasks. Students use hands on math and science skills to solve tasks, and use critical thinking skills to analyze the tasks and prepare programming. This tournament allows students to exhibit their learned skills in a competition with area students working on those same skills.
This tournament started with a vision from one Bonham Middle School teacher, J. Nanette Kelton, who has done an amazing job of organizing the event on top of her regular assigned duties as a Robotics teacher. Thank you Ms. Kelton for bringing this opportunity to the students in West Texas, and for allowing the Education Foundation to be a part of it. We are looking forward to next year!

"We Like to Move It, Move It"
Sam Houston Elementary was excited to unveil its new and improved Motor Lab this month which is the result of an Education Foundation grant called "We Like to Move It, Move It" received by Angela Disley last spring. In a specialized classroom with students who have severe physical and cognitive impairments, much of the teaching by Ms. Disley focuses on missing foundation skills. The Motor Lab is used to work on foundation skills necessary to meet functional and educational goals.
Foundation skills addressed in the Motor Lab are walking, managing stairs, balance, postural stability, tone management, sensory modulation, eye-hand coordination, reaching/grasping, and standing tolerance. All of these activities help the students to perform in the classroom and on through the campus environment.
Thank you Ms. Disley for your passion!
