Principal Post
Dear Dena'ina Families,
As we begin our second year as the Dena'ina Grizzlies, it's nice to know that not everything is new. It was wonderful to see familiar faces at Open House, to start the year with returning students and to have some established systems. But, as with anything, there will always be a need to change and adapt.
If your child is in grades K or 1, they will now have greater access to computers, which allows their teachers to have small groups rotate through programs like Lexia or Imagine Learning. Grades K and 1 also have access to Reading A to Z or Raz Kids, an online tool that you can use to increase reading achievement even from home.
2nd through 5th graders are learning even more about digital citizenship. They will carry their chromebook to all their classes now as a tool to access a variety of programs purchased to fit their needs. In these grades, students are skill level grouped and teachers have specialized in a subject area or two in order to maximize learning. These groups are flexible; if a student needs to accelerate or slow down they can be changed to a different group that better fits their needs. This week, parents will receive a letter indicating their child's schedule, who their teachers are and what they are using. You will also receive information about logins for Spelling City, Accelerated Reader, MobyMax or any other online program that you can use to help support learning at home.
This year we also look forward to Title I Parent Engagement events. These federal funds allow us to expand our resources and provide families with before and after school events. More information about these events will be coming home soon.
We look forward to talking with you - please call, email or stop by anytime! As always, if you'd like a paper copy of the newsletter, please be sure to let the office know.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Everett

Frequently Asked Questions
How does the new drop off/pick up loop work?
Now that the middle median is gone, all vehicles that are not parking to stay will need to enter the loop, not through the parking lot entrance. Once you are in the loop, if you have your child(ren) you can continue on and go straight out the parking lot entrance or you can turn and go back out the drop off/pick up loop entrance you came in.
FAQ #2: How is bus behavior communicated to parents?
If your child has an issue on the bus, the first line of communication is the driver. Typically they try to tell you at the stop or call home after their route. If it is a Friday, you may not hear from them right away. After they notify parents, if it is considered worthy of a write up, they will give the write up to Mrs. Everett. Mrs. Everett then handles any investigation and further parent contact. We work with our drivers to make sure students are following bus rules and sitting in assigned seats. Most do not have assigned seats yet; those will be coming out soon.
