Kindergarten Roundup - February 1st

As was shared in the January Principal's Newsletter: Parents of incoming kindergarten students, please mark your calendars for the 2021 Kindergarten Roundup! The event will be held via Zoom at 6:30 PM on Monday, February 1st.

The Zoom link will be provided directly to parents of students currently attending our Early Learning Center, and parents that sign up via the Barrington220 New Student Enrollment Questionnaire. More details can be found on the B220 Kindergarten Information webpage. Please do not post or share the Zoom link with anyone. If you know of a 'new' family that needs to attend, please direct them to the B220 Kindergarten Information webpage for more information or have them call the Sunny Hill Main Office at 847-426-4232.

The Kindergarten Roundup Presentation will be recorded and added to our Sunny Hill web page after February 1st.

Winter MAP Testing

As previously shared, Barrington220 will move forward with winter academic testing despite the pandemic. This data will help us guide student instruction. There are two testing options:

1. inviting students to come to school with safety protocols in place

2. testing remotely from students' usual workspace during distance learning

Students will be assessed according to the following schedule:

  • 5th Grade students will take their reading test on February 1st.

  • 5th Grade students will take their math test on February 8th.

  • 4th Grade students will take their reading test on February 2nd.

  • 4th Grade students will take their math test on February 9th.

  • 3rd Grade students will take their reading test on February 3rd.

  • 3rd Grade students will take their math test on February 10th.

  • 2nd Grade students will take their reading test on February 4th.

  • 2nd Grade students will take their math test on February 11th.

Students testing remotely will be assessed on the same days and times as students on-site. Please have them log in to their usual class’ zoom meeting and a staff member will provide directions for them to take the assessments. After finishing their test, remote students might start working on activities assigned by their classroom teacher.

Students testing in-person must complete the COVID-19 symptom screening Web App before leaving home, and arrive at Sunny Hill by 8:00 am each day they are scheduled for testing. We will begin the test promptly at 8:30 am and will be dismissing students at 10:30 am. Please note the following instructions for arrival and dismissal of students:

Annual B220 Speech Tournament: Saturday, March 13th, 2021

Sunny Hill students will be practicing during February for the annual District-wide Speech Tournament! Social Emotional Learning (SEL) ~ Mr. De La Mora, Assistant Principal

I hope that these first couple of weeks of our Hybrid 2.0 plan at Barrington 220 have gone well for you and your students. This month we are planning different activities to address the social and emotional needs of our students during these challenging times. These activities will be focused on reminding our Tigers of appropriate behaviors while they attend school (virtually or in-person). Please be on the lookout for our Daily Announcements where we will be sharing more about these exciting activities and the opportunities for our students to demonstrate the, “Tiger way.”

In last month’s newsletter I mentioned the series of presentations about Erin’s Law; these presentations needed to be rescheduled so will now take place from February 16th to February 26th. These will be led by our school Social Workers and Psychologist. During these presentations, students will learn about age-appropriate techniques to recognize personal body safety, how to speak up, share if there is a concern, and to tell a trusted adult. Thank you for all of your help!

We are all here to help you, and to give our students the opportunities to be the best version of themselves that they can be. Please do not hesitate to contact Mr. De La Mora at (847) 426-4232 or via email at edelamora@barrington220.org.
