Olive Elementary School

News from Mrs. Bush

What a Great Start to 2016-2017

We've had a great first couple of weeks of school. It's so nice to have the children back. We are excited about many things this year at Olive Elementary. An area in which we are putting a large focus this year is providing FUN in learning! Teachers are tasked with providing fun learning opportunities and sometimes just down right well-deserved FUN! I also will be providing a monthly school-wide fun activity. In August, we "Chalked the Walks!" Unfortunately, our work didn't last very long with the heavy rains, but we had a lot of fun and showed a ton of creativity, positivity and energy. If you didn't have a chance to see our beautiful work in person, I've included pictures below. Our September fun is planned for Sept. 9. All students will attend a BMX Anti-Bully show.

Welcome New Staff Members

5th Grade Athletics

NPUSC will again be offering athletic programs to our 5th graders. We currently are preparing for our Volleyball, Basketball and Wrestling seasons. If you are interested in coaching the Olive Volleyball teams, Basketball Teams or Wrestling Team, please apply on the NPUSC website as soon as possible.

5th grade Volleyball sign ups are currently taking place. Information and sign up links are posted on our Olive webpage.

Flex Learning Days

Beginning in the 2016-2017 school year, NPUSC will implement a virtual “eLearning” initiative for all students throughout the district. The goal of the initiative is to provide students with instruction that enhances the skills needed to succeed in a technological world. Students will have an opportunity to engage on both of these Flex Days via electronically planned instruction using the school’s iPad devices. All NPUSC students will take part in two scheduled Flex Days on Friday, September 16th and Friday, September 23rd from 9:00am-3:00pm. On these dates, students do not have to report to school for instruction, however Prairie View Elementary will be open for those students who do not have WIFI access or need instructional assistance. Prairie View Elementary will be open on both Friday, September 16th and Friday, September 23rd. There will be staff to assist all the students no matter their grade level (K-12th) or any special accommodations they may have. More information was previously sent home.

Olive teachers are working with their students to prepare them for the upcoming Flex Days and eLearning opportunities. Teachers are currently working with students through Google Classroom (K-4) and Schoology (Gr. 5), and our school will practice for the Flex Days on September 14 and direct communication from your child's teacher will be coming home prior to September 16. We are all very excited about this new opportunity to continue learning in different situations.

Reminders and Important Information

  • NPUSC does not celebrate birthdays with consumable treats. If you would like to celebrate your child's birthday by sending something in, we encourage non-edible items or donations to the classroom library or inside recess game collection.
  • If your family will be taking a vacation that will cause your child to miss school, please request a Vacation Form from our school office. This will allow your student's absences to be excused, if previous attendance issues are not of concern.
  • Students may miss six school days in a year without requiring a doctor’s note. These are just excused as parent call ins. After six absences, doctor notes WILL BE required for them to be excused. A certified attendance letter will be sent home to families who miss six or more days without doctor notes. A referral will then be made to the Casie Center or Project Attend. Students who are tardy or absent for ten or more days will miss recess on days tardy or days following an absence to make up missed instructional time. It is imperative that students attend school on a regular basis. We want to provide excellent instruction so your student(s) can succeed to the best of their ability.

  • Students are allowed to have one address for morning bus pick up and one address for afternoon bus drop off. For the safety of our students, changes to these locations can not be made. In emergency situations, the Principal will have to approve your request.
