Happy Friday Hawkins Families,

What a great week! We are hitting our stride and refining routines to help make this a great year. I am so excited with all I am seeing at Hawkins! This is truly an amazing staff! We have a busy few weeks coming up. Pink Week next week as well as the Color Run on Wednesday. Then Spirit Week and Homecoming take place October 3rd - 7th. For families that are new to Hawkins, the Color Run is such a fun event. Hawkins staff will be grilling hotdogs, and families will provide chips and other treats. The Color Run begins at 6:00pm. 4th Graders will kick things off as we work our way down by grade to Kindergarten. Other activities include food trucks, dancing to the music of DJ Wade, stopping by one of the many booths that will be on hand (Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Spirit Sticks, Smooch a Pooch) and of course the playground will be open. I can’t wait to see all of you out there, a hint to new families, many bring their chairs or a blanket to sit on.

I am still working to make drop off smoother. Today, I want to address the drop off time. I have many staff members and parents (thanks Mike Traicoff and Crystal Walter) who volunteer their time to be out in the morning and keep us safe. Our drop off time is 8:55, which I have mentioned several times in my correspondences. When I come out at 8:50 to set things up, I see students, sometimes little ones, already here standing by themselves. I realize for many of you the mornings are hectic, but the safety of your children has to be my number one priority. Here is my compromise as I know all of the drop off lots are a little different. 8:55 is the drop off time, if you arrive at your drop off time earlier, and a staff member in an orange vest is already out, then you are welcome to drop off. If no staff in an orange vest is out, students should stay in the car until you see one arrive.

Picture day went very smoothly this year. A huge THANK YOU to our PTO volunteers, Lisa Piegdon, Molly Jourden and Angela McFadden for their help. A reminder that with the weather changing, please make sure to check what your child is wearing when they leave the house. I am looking forward to one more weekend with my daughter before she leaves for Alaska, Michigan game Saturday and visiting my parents Sunday. Enjoy every second with your children, you blink and they are all grown up. Thanks for being such a great supportive group, I love being your principal.

Mr. McAuliffe
