This has been hard, really hard, for all of us. I know the challenges we have had at our house are ones we didn’t anticipate. Our work hours are not consecutive and are interrupted throughout the day. This leaves us working late nights and with little sleep. We get up and do it all over again. Sound familiar? I commend all of you parents for staying strong and on course. This isn’t easy, but we will continue on, push through remaining focused on the task at hand, educating our children with the best spiritual and academic education we possibly can during a global pandemic. I know, together, we are going to make it to the finish line. I am saying a prayer for all the parents because I strongly believe it is our faith that will get us through this.
May Crowning was a treat for the staff. Thank you to all that drove by. It means the world to us that we were able to see our school family. Those precious smiles were exactly what we needed to keep moving forward. What a special day spent with such special people. Seeing Mary showered with flowers was an amazing sight and almost emotionally overwhelming. I can not imagine being a part of any other community.
We have now completed Week 5 of our Continuous Learning Plan. Our KSDE Waiver, an application to waive 2019-2020 attendance requirements in order to receive an exemption, was accepted. The next step is to complete a Continuous Learning Survey for KSDE, this information will be used to improve our work around continuous learning and increase the quality of engagement for our students.
We have been very busy at school planning for the end of the year. We have been working on reviewing math curriculum, planning a May Crowning and Graduation abiding by social distancing regulations, scheduling our School Accreditation Visit for next year, organizing our last Faith Family event, growing enrollment, creating virtual school tours and Kindergarten Round-Up videos and many more tasks in motion for the exciting school year ahead. Together we are going to move mountains.

FROM THE COUNSELOR’S CORNER
I hope this finds your family well. I think of you often and pray for you daily.
These are anxious days for all of us. Perhaps you might find yourself saying “why does my child have such big worries”? You may be experiencing anxiety and worries yourself. Perhaps your child is concerned about doing or saying the “right” thing, worrying about loved ones they are not able to spend time with at this time ( perhaps their grandparents). Maybe your child is terrified of dogs, or the dark or just seems worried in general.
You might notice signs and symptoms of fear and anxiety from nail-biting or hair twirling; to rapid heartbeat or a tummy full of butterflies. Some of these signs are normal childhood fears, and will not last more than a few days. However, if the worries start to “take over” your child’s days, you might contact a counselor and share your concerns.
Most fears and worries in a child can be addressed and relieved by the comforting and soothing words from their parents or even just a hug. Try not to overreact when your child expresses fears or worries, but do address and validate them. Try saying something like “I can tell you are worried about something, can you talk to me about it”.
Limit the amount of time your child spends watching the news or hearing constant discussions regarding the crisis our country is going through during this time. Try to keep your family’s daily routine as normal as possible.
If I can be of any assistance to you, please email me at my Holy Cross email address: tnicholson@holycrosscatholicschool.com.
As always, you and your wonderful children are in my daily prayers.

DE LA ESQUINA DEL CONSEJERO;
