The Weekly Word from CDS FP - October 22-26, 2018
Looking Back
Hi All,
Last weekend, we had students at two international schools competing: grades two and three played at CI, and grade 4 played at GSIS. Thanks to all the PTA who came out to support and cheer for the players! The students played great, and I bet they were tired by the end of the day - one team had 8 games!
Seoul Zoo in Seoul Grand Park was our destination on Wednesday. The weather was perfect for students to spend a day enjoying nature: they went on a guided forest interpretive tour and explored the sights and sounds of the zoo. We tried school-supplied field-trip lunches for the first time, and it went smoothly. Students had fruit, sandwiches, drinks, chicken, and a snack in addition to whatever each individual brought for their snack - overall, a success.!
The week finished with Uniform Free Friday and Birthdays. Thank you to the PTA for their support of each of the classroom's birthday celebrations
The winter season begins the first Monday of November - 11/5. This is when the new Labs and ASP begin.
We still have another week of our fall labs; however, students are now considering what they'll choose for winter labs. Students will sign up for these at school with teachers, this week. Students are encouraged to communicate with parents about these choices prior to making their selections.
LABs - sign up at school with teachers
ASPs - sign up at home with parents
Students and parents may begin signing up for ASPs after school, Monday. We typically do not open it at the exact same time as Labs - some students get confused, and sign up for ASPs when they think they are signing up for Labs.
Educationally Yours,
Mr. Hill

In the Spotlight
This week we are featuring Library and Grade 1B. Thank you, Ms. Choo and Ms. Bahr!
Library with Ms. Choo
This week, grade 1 missed their regular library time on Wednesday morning because of the field trip to the zoo. Instead, they came to borrow books in the library on Friday morning. Ms. Fursova and Ms. Bahr's classes did a great job choosing "just right" books and reading quietly in the library.
Some of them chose to read with a buddy while others practiced their independent reading.
Grade 1 with Ms. Bahr
This week, 1B started learning about patterns in math. We did a pattern hunt in the classroom and the students found some really creative patterns in books, stuffed animals, or even made their own! Not only did we see patterns in the things inside our classroom, but we also started to see patterns in numbers grids when counting by 2s, 3s, 5s, and 10s.
