Rocket Review

Week of May 17, 2019

Mid-May is Here

It was another busy week at Morgan as we held our annual Art Show, the spring Book Fair, 2nd & 4th Grade Music Concerts, Variety Show and Volunteer Appreciation Night. We also completed two more M-STEP testing sessions and several NWEA testing sessions. Thankfully, we also had some sunny, warmer weather which allowed our students to get outside during lunch recess and afternoon recess to enjoy the warmer spring weather.

Next week will be the final week of M-STEP testing. It is also the week prior to Memorial Weekend--the unofficial start to summer! If you are planning on taking time away from school prior to or after the Memorial Weekend, please call into the Main Office to let us know your child will not be in attendance.

Last weekend our Morgan Volunteers PTO, with help from Mr. DeLorenzo, held a Saturday clean up day in the Morgan Nature Center. They cut away overgrown brush, spread 20 yards of mulch, lined trails with fallen logs to show the pathway and opened up former pathways that were previously too overgrown to access. The Morgan Nature Center is a true gem in our own backyard and our staff and students would like to say THANK YOU to all of the volunteers to helped get this valuable resource accessible again!

The final Morgan Volunteers PTO meeting will be Monday, May 20, starting at 6:30 PM at the Hamlin Pub on 25 Mile & VanDyke. This is when our PTO will be looking to elect a new Vice President and designate a new Webmaster to maintain the PTO web page. They will also be discussing Nature Center progress and plans, Color Run for the fall, and other items to finalize the 2018-2019 school year and plan for the 2019-2020 school year.

Have a great week!

Mrs. Lasky

Friday, May 24--Lunch in Classrooms

All Lunches to be Allergen Safe in Classrooms

On Friday, May 24, our 5th grade students will be hosting their annual Colonial Job Fair in the gymnasium/cafeteria throughout the school day. They have been working on their projects and presentations for the past several weeks and will have their displays up for parents and visitors to see and learn about the different career options available during the colonial days in American History.

Due to the elaborate display set up, we will be eating lunch in the classrooms that day. To protect the health and safety of our students with sensitive food allergies, all lunches brought from home will need to be peanut/tree nut safe. If a student does have an allergen in their lunch, that student will be asked to eat outside of the classroom to reduce exposure risk in the classroom.

Classrooms with allergy concerns will have all tables/desks cleaned after eating. Hot lunches are allergen safe and may be purchased and brought into the classroom.

If you have questions, please contact our main office at 586-797-5800.

Volunteer Appreciation Night

Thursday evening, Morgan staff celebrated the time and efforts our volunteers provide throughout the school year by treating our volunteers to a night at the movies! We had 35 volunteers and several staff members come together to see "The Heist" at the AMC theater.

Morgan Elementary would like to thank ALL volunteers, as not all were able to attend last night. Our volunteers are a great support and asset to our school and we appreciate the time you provide to help our students and staff!

THANK YOU to our Morgan staff who helped plan and organize this event!

Morgan to Honor UCS Seniors from Morgan 2019

Whenever a Morgan group of team is heading to competition, Morgan gives them a Clap Out at end of the school day.

Graduates of the Class of 2019 who are former Morgan Rockets are invited back to Morgan on Tuesday, June 11 to participate in a final Clap Out from our current Morgan Rockets. Graduates should arrive to Morgan at 2:45 PM, with cap and gown if possible, and report to the Media Center.

Our Clap Out will occur at 3:00 PM followed by a reception in the Media Center with treats for the graduates. Morgan staff is looking forward to seeing former students as they finish their school career and move on to the next phase in their lives.

Morgan Lunch Monitors

Morgan continues to look for additional support during the lunch hour. While our building is allocated a certain amount of paid EduStaff lunch monitors, we can take additional support in the form of volunteers. Students really enjoying seeing their parent/grandparent/aunt/uncle at school during the lunch time helping in the lunchroom or walking around the playground with the kids.

If you are interested in becoming a paid lunch monitor, please click on link below to start an application with EduStaff. EduStaff certified lunch monitors are paid an hourly rate each day they work. EduStaff employees can also complete additional, free, online training sessions and become substitute paraprofessionals for additional paid hours of work.

Morgan also takes volunteers with a current background check on file. If you filled out a Volunteer Sheet within the past few years, you should be able to volunteer for field trips, classroom help and lunch supervision. If you are unsure about your volunteer status, please contact the Main Office and Sharon or Melissa can check for you: 586-797-5800.

If you are interested in volunteering during the lunch hour, which runs from 11:30 AM until 12:15 PM each day, please contact Melissa in the main office and let her know what days you are available to volunteer. Grandparents/aunts/uncles/neighbors are all welcome once we have a background check on file.

If you have any questions, please call Morgan at 586-797-5800 or email Mrs. Lasky at sue.lasky@uticak12.org.
